    Hi :hello:

I will be starting my first ever course with the OU in October.

Gizmo0205 - K101 Understanding Health & Social Care, None, K202 Care, Welfare & Community (or whatever the replacement will be as this course ends this year and a new one to replace it is planned for 2010).

I'm hoping to go onto uni after completing those two courses to do a Social Work degree as by that time both lil uns will be in FT school.
    Good luck!

Well my start date is coming up soon. Materials arrived last week, course web site opens next week and I'm getting very very nervous.

I am debating if i should apply for a NUS extra card. I presume I don't need to apply for a student current account but i have some forms to complete for SAAS as i need some adjustments that OU cannot provide

Students accounts and OU dont mixasstudent accounts are based on full time students, and the OU isonly classed as part time.

NUS card - I would say 100% yes, I think its still £10.00, double check on website.
The discounts are brilliant. If I go to the cinema I save nearly £2.00 a go, if I go to any attractions most do a student rate, discounts in shops.

I have ot say my "smug" smile if I ever get anything from Peacocks /Qs chain, as if the item has already been discounted a member of staff cant use their staff discount card, but I can use my NUS card and get a further 10% off.
In all honestly for me personaly the card paid itself back in 2 momths, leaveing 10 mths profit xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

I am thinknig that just with amazon alone the card will pay for itself. I really need to get a passport photo sorted out. I will put it on my list for this week.

Nice to know I don't need a student bank account. Does the OU provide any form of student ID?? I am a bit confused with everything to be honest

You don't send the NUS a passport photo any longer, you either upload a digital image or allow the site remote access to your (f you have one) webcam. Easy peasy and costs nothing.

The OU doesn't provide any hard evidence of your student status but your PI number is used for that purpose.

I've been awarded a full financial award for the course fees - do I automatically get the course grant or do I apply seperately? Got the same last year but can't remember which forms I filled in!

If you have had your course fees covered by a financial award, you should automatically receive your grant without anything further needed from you.

    L120 Ouverture

I am registering for this course which starts February 2010 and wonder whether anyone who has already studied it could answer a question?

I note that TMAs are submitted via the net. As this is French how does one type in French - will it be necessary to buy an AZERTY keyboard? I've looked all over the OU information but can't find an answer.

I'm doing L120 at the moment, it's a really good course the only thing I'd mention is the workload is unbelieveable, I can't fit everything in so I pick and choose what to focus on according to what the TMA is for that unit.

I didn't buy a French keyboard and I don't think most people do, you can add French characters in MS Word with shortcuts or from the 'insert symbol' option in the drop down menus.

Thanks for that. Yes, I know I can insert accents etc but thought using a French keyboard would be smoother.

Did you have a good grounding in French before the course? I am still not sure about the level expected although the information is that you need only to have studied to O level.

Could you explain a bit about the workload - doesn't look too bad from what I've read - am I missing something?
