Hey everyone,
How's everyone's studying going. My W100 studies are plodding along, but with a minor op due on friday I'm trying to bash out the next TMA a week early so I can relax a bit. But critically assess..... anyone point me in the direction of what this exactly means.......
I managed to get another steady 60% for my last TMA, I'm nice and consistent, not wowing anyone, but consistent ;o)
Now then Y166 - anyone else out there done this one. I've just logged on and it says "Achieved" I'm assuming that means I passed?! There's no score, no feedback or anything on the site, just this big red achieved.
Thanks for the support as usual

What is the context? I would read that as evaluate with the number of points and detail required dependent on the number of marks on offer.
It's very easy to forget that positive points are worth just as much as negative points, you should aim to have a balance of the two. You should also compare the points you make and indicate which are of more importance/have a bigger impact than others.
edit: I hope that wasn't patronising!0 -

Hi
Your doing brilliantly getting the 60s W100 I found to be a hard course.
I would say "critically evaluate" to me, almost be critical, scratch below the surface look at all angles, not just the obvious one, look at it as though it was the first time, even if its negative then explain why,
Hope that helps xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

If you are doing it for your own enjoyment then it's simply a case of working out what are you interested in.
Most people according to the OU site end up with an Open Degree which is a mis-match of subjects.
I suggest if you haven't studied for a very long time and didn't get to A level/Highers level then find one 10 point course you are interested in and start from there.
If you have studied at A level level/Highers level or higher find one 30 point course you are interested in and start from there.
Remember courses start at different times of the year, and quite a few courses are being updated at the moment so don't worry if you think you could do more courses as you can start a course in November and in February, or November and May.
You should only really aim to do 60 points worth of courses a year.
I have degrees in other scientific things but found I was lacking in foreign language skills so after looking at the various language courses available I decided the OU with me going on a few summer schools would suit me the best.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

No - definitelty not patronising!! I'm grateful for anyone's guidance. The OU seem to make it very vague so you can come up with a variety of ideas. Good in principle - not so good when your heads all fuzzy from the tablets!!!
The question is "court trial is the only way to resolve legal disputes, citically assess this statement". I started to set out the assignment and straight away saw where I think I'm supposed to be heading. Fingers crossed
Thanks everyone for your encouragement

Hi
Obviously the text books and tmas change yearly, so based on that statement (just my thoughts- maybe barking up wrong tree may help)
"court trail" - consider looking at all levels of court system, youth, magistrates, crown court, etc
"is the only way to resolve legal disputes" - is this necessary true, look back through the text book + case studies that applied to the block that tma is in
it may be yes - only resolve in courts -
there could be positive - the court setting the seriousness of it
done + dusted
negative - are magistrates hand tied, ie prescendt set, they have to follow set guidelines,
"critically assess" - really deep dig, back up answers where possible case studies etc
Obviuosly without seeing the guidelines etc in tma booklet, i'm just trying to get you to look from a different angle -
Good luck, apologies if I have confused the issue in anywayxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
