I have requested to cancel the BU130 module. I have never struggled to read so much, and it nearly put me off doing my degree! What a waste of paper that course is - such drivel. I am so annoyed I chose this instead of B123!

The OU are dropping the BU130 course after April so students have to study the B123 instead. I'm gutted I didn't wait until the course was dropped instead of trying to follow the book.

If you can't manage your time and like writing about all the things that are wrong in your life at work, then this the BU130 course is for you. For me it was just zzzzzz. No one spoke on the TGF and the tutor seemed mute most of the time. I just didn't have a good feeling which is a shame as I wanted to do so well.

My only regret was not dropping the module sooner -like 'as soon as I received the books' sooner. I have to pay 25% fees but would rather that than pay full whack.

I feel a bit of a failure giving up after doing TMA1 too but I just couldn't face much more.

I start LB160 in April but can't decide between B122 or DB123 to complete level 1 - any suggestions? I already have B120.

Just got TMA02 back- I got 71 which I'm thrilled with given the alarming amount of people on the FB groups who are getting bare passes. This TMA was horrific and I struggled like mad to write it. I got a Distinction for my first assignment and a Distinction for AA100 but I have to say I'm worried about the TMA's going forward! My tutor is very patient with me as I have anxiety disorder and get very worked up very easily but he's aware and always is very nice about my flapping emails. However most of the tutorials are online which I have no access to. TMA03 isn't due till Jan- thank god!! The icma is a massive source of worry to me as well as someone said its all numbers and I'm numerically dyslexic- I struggled to even understand a simple set of statistics that were put up at the last day school so I have no idea how I'm going to cope with a load in an exam :( someone said I need to tell the OU about it which I will gladly do but not sure what they will be able to do to help- anyone any ideas? Thanks xx

  • Not sure if its different Mrs Ryan, but in Scotland we can get reffered for 'tests' to diagnose the type of dyslexia and get recommendations on what is available for help and support, for some this might be physical equipment, for others it might be scribes, for others just learning a new way to cope/manage it...
Advise your student support for your module and they will put u in touch withteh appropriate team.

Hi kirstycobie - I'd suggest giving the student enquiries line a call and asking them for advice.

Fingers crossed you've got in :) What is it you want to study?

Hi there, just thought i would introduce myself as I am a current year1 student with the OU studying a pure maths degree eeek! Any other maths/stats students on here?
  • Hi I wonder if anyone can help me please.

I have studied with OU for some time and done the following -

    Level 1
Introduction to health and social care 60 credits
Introducing the social sciences 60 credits

For these I was sent a certificate in health and social care and a certificate in social sciences.

    Level 2
Adult Health, social care and wellbeing 60 credits
    Death and dying 30 credits
The science of the mind, investigating mental health 30 credits

From this I plan to apply for my Open Diploma

So now I am about to register for my level 3 courses. I want to do the following -

    Promoting public health 60 credits
Adulthood, ageing and life 60 credits

I then want to apply for my Open degree with honours.

The question I have is about the public health course, this comes with a public health certificate on completion which would be great as it is relevant to the job I am aiming towards, but I am worried if I claim this can I still use the course towards my degree?

The reason I ask is because I know there is a rule about having to have a certain amount of credits which have not been counted towards another qualification, but then I also read that it is classed as not counted if the previous qualification was 120 credits or under.

Sorry I am probably being as clear as mud here, basically I am asking can I claim the public health certificate without having to worry that I then won't be able to count it towards my degree?

If you got this far thank you, any advice appriciated :j
