  • Hi Romanza! I know some people who want to get their degree more quickly, who choose to study one module at a time but take no breaks in between. You might start an October course, then the next one in February, then the next one in October and so on. There will be an overlap sometimes, and it means you wouldn't get a "summer break", which could be tiring, but it is possible. Another option is to do both your level one modules in one year, since they don't count towards your degree mark you only have to pass them to move onto the next level. Then you can decide whether to do both level two modules in one year or just do one per year. The workload does get harder with each level, and you probably want to be getting decent marks at level 2 & 3 as they count towards your degree classification.

I am doing 60 credits per year as I am not in a rush to get it completed. I am pregnant with my third child, so I'm hoping I'll have my degree by the time he/she is in school and I can look forward to getting a decent job hopefully :) Good luck in starting your OU journey and have fun!

Anyway, its my graduation ceremony this Saturday and I can't wait. I feel like a kid at Christmas, counting the number of sleeps, I so want to put on my robes, have my photo taken, and get up on that stage to shake hands with the Dean! I'm sure I won't sleep at all Friday night! The point I'm trying to make is that only you know how much of a workload you can cope with, but however long you take it's all worth it!:D

Good luck whatever you decide to do! :T

    :T:T:T Huge congratulations Hezzawith kids :) :T:T:T

    Hi!

I was actually considering studying 120 credits for stage one as like you've said, it doesn't affect your degree. However, I was also thinking of starting it next year as I couldn't afford (I need to pay for mine!) to do full time this year. But I can afford to do 60 credits this year. So I'm planning on just starting a year earlier.

I really want to get the best degree I can possibly get so I don't want to risk studying and working full time. I think I'll keep saving and do part time work during stage 3 and get both modules done in one year.

Overlapping may be a possibility which I fully intend to explore and talk over with my new tutor!

Thank you for your suggestions - it's always nice having feedback/advice from people who have already been where I am.

Good luck with the rest of your degree! :)

  • OMG OMG OMG!!!

Had my degree ceremony on Saturday and it was fab-u-lous! :j So beautifully done and so emotional, worth every minute of the 6 years it took me to get there! I still haven't come back down to earth and tear up every time I think about it - one of the happiest days of my life! :D:D:D

If you are wondering why you are doing this or if you should start then my advise is DO IT!! You won't regret a minute of it!!!

  • My start date is 4th October. It's getting close and I can't wait to get started.

Anyone else starting their course on this date?

Edit; Lol. I have used the words 'start,' 'started' and 'starting' in one post!

I think both of mine start on 4th October. I'm still waiting on my funding to be approved.

Both? Are you doing 120 credits this year then? Also, which ones are you doing?

    Yep both  !

My job is only secure for 1 more year, possibly being extended for another 2 after that so i need to make sure I've got something in the pipeline.

Im starting a little ahead already as i have 60 useable credits from previous study. So in theory, 2 and a half years and i should have my degree!

    im doing

    Understanding contempory politics DD203

    and
International Developement: making sence of a changing world TD223

    Towards BA Hons International Studies.

Ive previously dabled in Socal Care, Social Work and Social Sciences, but found im more interested in the Politics and History than i was with psychology. I might further down the line go back and do some sociology.

Im also intending at some point to get some sort of qualifications for Scots Gaelic, i was hoping that would have been this year, but taking on the 2 modules is not going to leave much time for family life as it is.
