Well the best first place to start would be to find the contents list (sheet of A4 paper that came with your stuff) and check you have everything. Hopefully you already did that, but you might have been too excited.

Then if you have a Course Guide start with that, but not all courses do. If not, have a look through your book - if there's something else they want you to do first they will say that! You should also have a study calendar which may be either posted to you or just put on the website. This gives you a guide as to what you should be doing and when.

If you get really stuck then yes, contact your tutor or wait for them to contact you. You could also try going on the website and seeing if there is anything there that might help.

    yep checked the contents.

just wasnt sure whether you just dive straight in or not,
ive checked the website and there isnt anything on there

ill have a read of the course book tonight

another question, what sort of amount of time per week does each level of course require/suggest
    ie 10 unit
    30 unit
    60 unit

im aware that they vary in length ie number of weeks the course lasts

A 10 point course needs about 100 hours in total. A 30 point course needs about 300 hours. This is very general as it will vary form person to person depending on how quick they are at picking up new ideas or if they have any past knowledge of the subject.
There should be a timetable or something on the module website or the module guide should tell what you need to do each week.
    Good luck with your module.

    Deep breath!

I just pre-registered for AA100 starting in October. Or should I say I hope I have! Just got a message on the screen saying

    Sorry...
    MY NAME
You have successfully completed your transaction.

I've wanted to do this for years and years but never felt that I could make the commitment before. :)

So.... RacyRed Prev: None, current: None, planned AA100 Oct 2011

My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

    Hello fellow OU students

I love to read what others are studying - BUT - the codes don't mean an awful lot to me (unless they are ones that I have done....) so, pain as it may be, how about the titles as well as the codes?

    :)

    Current:
    S104 - Exploring Science

    Planned:
    SXR103 - Practising Science/Residential School

    Aim:
    BSc Natural Sciences

    Previous:
S180 - Life in the oceans
    S151 - Maths for science
    S154 - Science starts here
    MU120 - Open mathematics
    Y162 - Starting with maths
  • You will LOVE SXR103 - make a point on getting on it asap, as the memory of the fun you have should keep you going through the long March slog. Although you will have got through the biochem by now, so S104 is getting easier again!

Me - I have A103 (intro to Humanities :(), U216 (environment - social studies - bleurggggh), TA212 (technology of music :D), S104 (intro science :)), SXR103 (the Brighton jolly :D), have just started S330 - Oceanography (:D, but it's early days yet) and SA188 Archaeology (kind of neglecting that at the moment).

Next October, may be doing A224 Inside music and AA302 Music from composition to performance.

After that, will be scratching around for level 3's to complete my BSc degree. Although I may go in for the kill and get the science level 3s done and then do the fun ones to add up towards a master's.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

    Hi everyone

Im starting DB234 in May and just wondering if there was any reccommended reading listed in the book? I wont have much time for reading other than the main study book, so Id love to try to get ahead now if I can - reading back over db123 in the meantime.

I did DB234 last year, we were the guniea pigs as they say. In all honestly there is no real recommend reading material that you need, I found it followed a lot on the basis of DB123, but whereas that was a personal finance based course, this is a step up and I would say based around businesses.

Again you work through a workbook, good thing is its not an exam at the end of it. I really did enjoy the course, which region are you based in, I'm region 4 West midlands, - it wouls be likely you have the same tutor that I did.

I'd just say when the material comes start and try and get a couple of weeks ahead, - the good part their is a course calender, so you should know where you should be each week, the only major change noticeable would be whereas with level 1 your allocated a week for a tma, within the level 2s, the tma is included within the workload.

If you any more info just shout, xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
