Just posting, albeit a few days late, that I got a distinction in W201 :j so now have distinction for both W200 and W201 (law).

So now am waiting to start W300 in February.

Just a little worried about how to fund my last year (W301). Has anybody been successful in getting a discretionary award?

    Happy Christmas all.

Massive congratulations, good luck with W300, just a thought but if your doing the LLB then is the W300 and W301 part of the qualification, - if they are then you should be able to get the funding xx

just wondering if anyone can help.

I just seem a bit lost, and guessing the OU is closed for Xmas / New year - I failed ECA on BU130 - only got 30 - which doesn't seem right, as my OES was 75ish...... and the ECA was basically the last TMA readjusted.....
I had an email about redoing the ECA as I scored above 15, but another email said about rerigestering for the course?
I just wondered of anyone had been in the same boat, just that I've had to put extra to the last 2 yrs of study, and can't afford the full course fees to redo BU130 just to get the ECA remarked, but I need the BU130 as its a compulsary on my degree - can't win either way xx

ivyleaf - Did you have any funding towards "Starting with Maths"? You get a set amount of funds for each academic year - no matter how many courses you do.
No, I paid for it myself - there isn't any financial support for short courses unless you are on an income under £15,000-odd. Ours is higher than that. Thanks for the thought though, and thanks to mum2one too. :)

Apparently they have been short of staff due to the weather as well.

Feeling a bit blue, I've got a place reserved on AA100 "The Arts Past and Present" for Feb (I'm currently doing "Starting With Maths") and have just had a phone call to say I've been awarded £200 towards the fee, leaving me with £450 stilll to find. I'm baffled because my husband was awarded £430, the full cost of the 30-pointer he's starting in February! So presumably either mine must be wrong, or his was! I'm going to leave it till the New Year to talk to Financial Support though, they are so busy atm and anyway I might cry on the phone :o.. we can't afford £450.

Don't ask why, but I woke up at 3am with a thought re your grant differing from hubbies, its just another guess, but as you've both been awarded grants - I know normally its for the person studying, as I would guess most households are one person studying, but the thought was when the grtant form filled in due to income, your allowed xx for 1 person, then add ons for partner children etc, it could well be that the grant is per household not per person, which if it is could explain why theres not enough in the pot for your course.

I maybe completely going off on a tangent - so apologies in advance, but may be worth seeing if theres any info relating to that on the home pages.

Thanks for that thought, I'll have a look, though i don't think I mentioned on my application that my husband was studying too. The financial support office is closed until next Tuesday so will ring them then, and have a hunt for info om the website in the meantime :)
  • I checked mt studenthome yesterday and they have finally recived my registration pack back, they processed it yesterday and the tiny shortfall of £90 for my last of 3 modules starting in February has been put onto an OUSBA account. Really happy it has all been processed now I was getting a little nervous it has taken Royal Mail the best part of 2 weeks to deliver my pack back to them and I sent it 1st class recorded delivery!!!!

Just waiting for my module materials to arrive now, 2 of them were sent via DHL before Christmas and still not out for delivery presume the 3rd will be sent soon :)

    Onwards and upwards :)

 Money, do OU think theres a money tree in the vottom of the garden.....
    (rant over0

Just had the documentation abour the resubmit for BU130, and they want £91, but as its a resit I can't pay via OUSBA account or Tesco voucers, coz of the 2 courses I have this yr the have gone over my grant - so I'm having to pay £300

But £91 to mark an assisgnment, ok and exam I could of understood maybe the added expense, but then again the course is £360 so guess £90 not to bad, but then I hit brick wall no 2, i'm already over my points for this yr... as 2009/2010 yr went over to Oct they've classed those points as this yr, I've got 2 x 60, 1 started other starts Feb, and done openings course - judt got the eca to do (10 points) so I now have to ring and beg to be allowed to do the submit as rthey class it as the full 40 points..... just not my day xx
