    thats great for you
now scuttle off back to your other thread as i feel your keyboard skills are not up to multi threading replys

do you see the irony of my original post and your post ive just quoted?

I'm assuming that your mis-spelling of 'replies' and 'I've' is ironic? If not, then you should really try to spell your attacks on another persons literacy/keyboard skills correctly :rotfl:

IMO soaking these stamps to get them off will still work.... (not that I would, but I may just give it a try to see if its possible :D)

Peeling will probably detach the tabs, but I can't see how soaking will detach them
Tamper-proof stamps are to be issued to thwart fraudsters who peel off or soak old ones to reuse them.

The trick costs the struggling Royal Mail hundreds of thousands of pounds a year - and is soaring as credit crunch-hit customers try to get away without paying.

The new security Machin stamps have two sticky panels that tear if they're peeled off, and are printed on special paper with the words Royal Mail repeated - similar to security features used on bank notes to stop forgeries."

    BG NOTE

Can I just please place the usual BG warning that defrauding the PO is actually an offence and maybe we should get back to the actual topic under discussion. The rules on MSE are as follows:

My Post Office has a car park, and a comedy postmaster (spit of Basil Fawlty - looks and attitude).

It also has a disabled space, which usually has a big red van with Royal Mail written on the side in it. :)

hmmm so the fact that RM has to charge more than its competitors for business mail has no bearing?
the fact it was under invested in for many years has no bearing?
the fact the UK jumped in before being ready has no bearing.
remember most competitors still have a safe home market

yet again we want modern etc etc but we want all the old RM trimmings

Why does RM have to charge more? If it's a rule imposed on it then I can understand your anger but if it's simply because it costs RM more to process because it's less efficient then I don't.

Yes, under-investment has been a huge problem, and I'd be the first to criticise those who allowed it to get bogged down. However, it's important to note that whenever investment in modernisation is even mentioned RM staff automatically threaten to strike - perhaps low acceptance of modern working practices is the reason investment hasn't been forthcoming? Just a suggestion.

Most competitors did have a 'safe' home market, but it's fewer and fewer every year. DHL is perhaps the biggest (and arguably most successful) competitor, and now faces even more competition in its home market (Germany) than RM does here. The fact is though that the 'home' markets are much more efficient than RM is here - TNT and DHL have both modernised successfully - a sign that domestic 'home' players can do it if they try hard enough.
so where is this free redirection service you mention?
so when was the last time you saw RM state this? was it in the last decade?
as for your redirection.thats down to a postie failure there is no big fancy redirection machine
thats where having a regular postie pays dividends considering many items of mail fail redirections due to wrong addresses in the first place

Yes it was in the last decade - I'd be too young to remember it otherwise. Until very recently it was stated explicitly on the RM website, and it's still in the pdf rule book a previous poster linked to. More importantly, however, it's still what staff tell people to do - the parents of an old uni friend were told by a postman to do it because sticking new stamps on business mail and re-writing the address was causing too much confusion in the mail centre and it kept being misplaced/misdelivered! And of course I mentioned in a previous post that staff at my old college (which is classed officially as a post office) still do it - and they should know!
