    The Motherboard is ASRock P4VM8

Looking at the manual, the DRAM Frequency can be set to 200. IIUC it's being detected as 166 and that might point to a problem on the motherboard.

"Is it possible for your neighbour to test your old/new memory?" I would have thought so!
I think you've said before that you've tested both old and new memory and that they both failed?

I'd get the neighbour to run the tests on your memory. If it passes on their box then I'd be pointing the finger at your motherboard.

Would completely wiping the hard drive and reinstalling windows etc., help?

No, memtest runs before windows even gets a chance to start.

Just to check: was the PC working fine before or always had a problem?

I'm afraid your getting close to the end of what can reasonably tried. If the memory works on your neighbour's box then you're really down to just the CPU and the motherboard as the suspect. At this point, you'ld be testing the CPU on another board ...... :wall:

Did you test each stick or RAM on its own?

Your system seems very unstable......and if its new the geeza who built/sold it should be doing more tests to find the problem.

    Yes we did.

The system only really falls over when hubby plays his up to date games (Current favourites are Sniper Elite and COD2), but he did buy it for gaming and doesn't connect it to the internet. Hubby bought the system off of ebay last year with a very dodgy, The warrantee is void if seal is broken guarentee, plus it cost £25 each way postage! The first thing hubby did was open up the unit and put in his better graphics card, so voided the guarentee. Its always had the odd problem, but has become progresively worse, I only offered to to try and help, after he was threatening to throw the *&"@~#*** thing out the window for the umpteenth time!

I'm very grateful for all the help you guys have offered us!

Wish we could be of more help.....

If its only crashing during games (and he's put a hungry graphics card in) it might be a PSU.

From what you are telling me, its from ebay so some1 has built it prolly using the cheapest parts available to make the biggest profit.

My experience of pre-built machines is the lack of PSU quality. You can really save alot of money buy buying a bottom-end PSU and it *may* work for months and months......alternatively it can cause a system to be unstable in different areas.

If that dodgy RAM sint throwing any other errors up apart from games it could be a problem....

I had a dodgy stick of RAM about a year ago but it caused errors using Internet Explorer, games would crash to desktop, prime95 wouldnt run for more than 30 seconds and I couldnt overclock over 1Mhz.

Its so damn time consuming to find a hardware fault, specially when its a intermittent fault.....

    gl :)

This is what you said. No one asked you for your opinion! This user is asking for help with a pc that isnt working 100%, the whole idea of these forums is for people to ask questions and other people offer ideas, help and experiences.

I post to actualy try help users, you however just like to get the last word in whatever your comment. If this thread was 'wat is the best gaming system' then fine, you have your opinion but I don't think Sarahjovi is going to find a comment like 'buy a playstation' very helpful.
