  • soundcard drivers.. see if there is an update on manufacturers website.

Make sure you have the latest version of directx from Microsoft.

failing that run a virus scan, and maybe buy a new soundcard.

Interestingly, the PC doesn't seem to have a Sound Card, but has a C-Media AC97 Audio Device, which has drivers which are dated 2004. Having done a quick search, it seems that there are no updated drivers to this. Hubby will buy a Sound Card tomorrow and install it and see if this helps.

    Thanks

    Sarah

C-Media AC97 Audio Device is Built in On Board Sound

If you wnat the drivers for them you can get the here https://www.driverguide.com
and enter driver2 and all for account log in and then search sound card drivers
C-media then download the drivers for free and re-install them if you like.

One thing I will add.... Nvidia 6600's run hot... even more so during gameplay. If the soundcard update doesnt work try running it with the side of the case off to allow more air in and see if this helps... If it does then you may need to install more fans. Also check the actual fan on the graphics card is ok.

    Hi Guys,

We have installed the new Soundcard which seems to have fixed the BSOD with the
    DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

We are now getting (Less frequently). A PFN_LIST_CORRUPT Blue Screen and a BAD_POOL_HEADER.

Again I have search the internet for information and it comes up with various reasons from Service Pack 2 incompatability, driver problems to Memory problems. (I read an interesting forum, that suggested a network card might be the problem)

I have tried to down load Memtest86, but don't seem to be able to get it to work. (Both on my PC and Hubbies) we have changed the bios, so that the pc reads from the floppy or the CD Drive to boot, but hubbies computer seems to totally ignore the request and goes straight to windows. I download 2 versions, one to boot from floppy and one from CD!

He has also sat with a fan blowing cool air into the PC to see if its a heat problem. Incendently he has a temperature indicator for the processor, but of course when your playing a game, you can't see what its reading.

Any further help would be gratefully received.

    Thank you

    Sarah :D

Random crashes are usualy caused by a bad power supply, or bad memory (RAM).

    Keep trying with MemTest86!

Just add inadequate cooling to that and you've got the 3 most common culprits outside of driver/irq conflicts.

Try the more up to date Memtest86+ instead. In the Download section choose the Floppy (DOS - Win) download. PCs with floppies try to boot from the floppy drive first so you shouldn't have to change the BIOS boot order. (NB are you saving the changes when you exit from the BIOS?)
