OS Daily thread - Sunday 15th February

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 15th February. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread that we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we have achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well.

heart.gifGood morning OS friends,

Up early again today, but the cat loves it as she gets an extra meal!

Smoky - Hope you feel better now hon.
Essex and mioliere - my town is much the same - in the last three months we lost a huge Woolworths, clarks shoes and a big independant department store. Plus numerous smaller shops that suddenly seem to vanish.. The town feel so empty.
Aussie - Welcome home honey, it's good to have you back. Glad you had a good time.
ravylesley - it isn't about Tristan and I making peace. He is hurting and angry and upset that the op hasn't worked, as well as feeling ill, and is just taking it out on me and his family and friends. He knows I am here and when he is more himself I know he will log on and talk to me. He has always been able to sulk for England!
catowen - nice to see you posting again
PenPin and Moggins - hugs to you both
Buddingblonde - well done on such a good start!

Well my only plan for today is to bake some more rock buns and hobnobs as both disappeared in double quick time!

We are having a cheap turkey leg today so I am going to bone it and stuff it I think and then roast. I have a few ideas so see which one I fancy once the day gets going properly. It's an experiment! If it tastes nice I might post it on here.

My OH broke the lid to the slow cooker last night. We have a big oval 6.5 litre one and the lid was on the drainer and he needed something to put over a grill pan to stop it spitting. Rather than use any one of the many oven proof saucepan lids that might have taken the strain, he put the glass lid from the slow cooker on it and it shattered immediately.. Luckily he didn't get a scratch on him but the lovely pork chops were ruined and now my slow cooker is unusable.

I hope everyone has a peaceful and loving sunday and that anyone who is feeling down or upset gains some equilibrium today.

Warm gentle hugs to those who would like one.

    Morning all :hello:

My town has fortunately not lost that many shops, as we have mostly 'cheapo' shops anyway, and I think their business is better than ever! A close friend though has lost her job at Woolworths. She worked there for almost 20 years but it closed down. They have a LO (his 3rd birthday is in 4 days). It's been very upsetting for us all.

Anyway, weather here is cold and wet, no snow.

Managed to sleep a few hours last night and woke up at 2am, so made a couple of pie fillings. Making the pastry later today as I haven't got any stork.

Hope everyone's OK. Hugs to all who want one!!!

Good morning all. Not too early for me for a change!

Didn't really catch up with the thread yesterday; we've been helping DS2 re-do his garden fence, and DH is going round there again today to put the panels back up. The weather was great for outdoor work so I hope it's the same today.

Well, I shall probably do some baking today because we've run out of cakes, and I also have some plums to use up so will make a crumble, too.

Dinner today will be roast chicken with roasties, baby carrots and cabbage; pudding will probably be some Valentine choccies!

MSD - how annoyed you must be about your slow cooker. Men just don't think, do they? DH decided to make beans on toast for lunch the other day and thought it would be a good idea to warm the plates on top of the saucepan the beans were cooking in. He put the hot plates on the kitchen table and it's left a horrid round mark that makes the table look as if it's never been cleaned. Every time I see it, I get really cross - he should have known better!

(((Hugs))) to all in need of one.

    Have a great Sunday.

    Morning folks.

All is well here, weather is boring though. Same old cloudy and mild, dull, day after day... Time for some sunshine1
The painting is going slow, just can't seem to make much headway.
Managed to get the alternator installed in the car yesterday. That took a while even for my mechanic neighbour as it was one of those parts that's not easy to reach. Cost a bottle of JD in labour, so not too bad.

We did shopping in Tesco for a change. Probably for the last time. I just cannot get over some of their prices and their constant out of stocks. The store is too small for the town really, and so the shelf space no doubt is limited. No baking marg at all. Cheapest peanut butter is £3 a jar, Asda 43p. So it goes on. Anything that was on offer was sold out hours ago. ASDA seems to be the best even without club card points and stuff.

Status Quo was good. My hearing only recovered late this morning. Nice gig and free too!
Church soon and walk the dog to the paper shop. Roast chicken for dinner....

    Morning!

A bit earlier than its been recently for me which can only be a good thing! It's lovely to be up on my own so I'm making the most of it having a coffee & a peaceful half hour on here :D Yesterday was a busy day but a good one. The working tax credit people sent me a letter (inside a week is this a miracle ;) ) saying that my claim for dd'd bf has gone through & that there was back dated money from his moving in day in my bank! I gave him £50 to get some clothes as he's been wearing the same 2 pairs of pants. DD & he went to Primark so he got plenty (2 pairs of jeans, a jumper, 2 t shirts, some boxers, socks & a sweatshirt) for his money. They took ds(10) with them & he had a blast. He spent his pocket money on a whoopie cushion so there has been much hilarity hiding it under cushions :rotfl: We also collected the remaining clothes, birth certificate & GCSE results from dd's bf's parents house. No comments were made as to how he is as always  He's doing ok though & has applied to our local college this week to do a sports/coaching course in September. I'm proud of them all they're all getting on very well & with amazing patience at times.

Diva - Do the company who made your slow cooker do spare parts? It might be worth buying a new lid - Men eh?!!

Moiliere & Meli - Nice to 'see' you Moiliere I enjoy reading your posts you are a voice of reason & calm to me. Meli hope that your sleep settles for you hun it's miserable being tired all the time ((((((((hugs)))))))) to you.

Chicken casserole, mash, carrots, green beans & cauliflower to dinner tonight, I'll be putting the chicken in the slow cooker to do it's thing in a couple of hours ;) Lunch will be a bit of a hodge potch depending on what the kids are fancying  DH & I will be having spicy lentil soup & YS granary bread - yumm.

I seem to have rambled on far more than I intended to! Big (((((((((((hugs))))))))))) to those that need it. Moggins - I hope you're getting through ok.

That's unbelieveable N9eav  What are Tesco putting in their peanut butter to justify that!!! Glad you enjoyed the concert. My dh went to see Quo & Queen together in 1986 at one of Manchester's football grounds (I can't remember which one :o ) a week after we'd met - I obviously didn't get to go as it had been planned long before he met me. It was a great concert that he still remembers which is nice.

    Good morning everyone :D

I've spent an hour trying to get two different computers to connect to the internet. In the end I unplugged the telephone lead and replugged it in and 'da da' it connected. I don't know if this is just coincidence or what. Connection and speeds have been awful just lately.

We too are beginning to notice all the empty shops. I don't get into town more than once a month (to go to the hairdressers) so I tend to notice it more. The independents seem to be going now.

Today it is duck for dinner. I'm going to roast it in the remoska. I'm trying to push my once a week shop (veggies and fruit) back by a day or two each week so that I end up with a little more cash to spare out of our monthly shop allowance.

I made two batches of soup yesterday to put into the freezer for our packed lunches. Carrot and butterbean (chopped carrots, butterbeans, marigold boullion and dried chives, plus seasoning - simmered and then whizzed with hand blander) and Celery soup (apprentice tycoons great recipe). Today I'm going to make tomato and lentil for more variety.

Have a lovely OS day everyone :D
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

Mioliere - if your table is wooden, you can remove the mark by putting an old t-shirt over the mark and iron it out with your iron. Sounds strange but it really works!! Gave this tip to my MIL and she was amazed!!

Having a quiet day ironing and washing the bedding, cleaning the bathroom, maybe the bedrooms and definately some more homework.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone (((((hugs)))))
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )
Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)

    Good morning guys.

I am thankfully feeling much less battered this morning. As anticipated I did very little yesterday :o but I must say the kids were very helpful and my sis took them out for longer than usual yesterday afternoon walking the dogs to let me have a kip.

Today is bed changing day and I need to hoover through and get the duster out. I have a glut of eggs and so I think the kids and I will be cake making this afternoon and maybe make a quiche and a cheeseburger impossible pie as that always goes down well.

This evening we will be watching dancing on ice - which the two oldest and I are really getting in to - and the lego box is coming out with all the lego instructions that DS1 has collected from his bedroom and we will see what we can put together. (He has a huge box of bits so we should be able to cobble some things together hopefully.)

Sunnygirl - it sounds as if you are doing wonders for dd's bf, well done you. :T :T

Pen-pin, you OK hun? :kisses3: to you. xx

    Moggins, hugs to you. xx

MSD, men eh! I hope you manage to replace the lid.

    Aussie, welcome home. :T :T

Gentle hugs to all in need today and I'm off for another coffee before the kids demand breakfast.

    Morning everyone:hello:
Sort of a 'bland' looking day here - hope the sun comes out. Dogs to walk later but at the mo I am sitting here in my jimmy-jams with a milky coffee.
DH goes off with work tomorrow for 8 days so I am feeling a bit sad. I always get like this:(.
Sunday lunch - very grand - will be braised sausages, veg, mash and yorkies. The sausages are from our butcher and are lovely.
Other plans - do a bit more writing and sorting. Also need to iron clothes for the week and make up the single beds. Haven't had any of the kids to stay for over a week so haven't made up the beds again in that time. Looks a bit untidy. DSS has settled back at 'home' with his mum and I think the rows have stopped. I found it very difficult when he was here as he doesn't tell the truth about homework and after a day teaching at college, with young people who don't always tell the truth about their course work (!) I felt exhausted all the time.
Sorry to be a moaning minnie today.
