What about the families who work hard, don't qualify for WTC and aren't wealthy shouldn't we have a good will gesture for not claiming benefits? If people think that those that don't qualify for WTC and all the other benefits are wealthy then that's insulting and ignorant.

    rant over.

Have to agree with this - what certain people fail to realise (because they don't actually pay taxes etc themselves), is that those of us who DO work and have worked our way up over the years, get taxed heavily, which in a lot of cases, results in us having about the same disposable income as those who don't work.

Just because i don't qualify for WTC, doesn't make me wealthy, it just means I work (extremely hard) for the money I do have. I still, however, cannot afford to send my children on holidays like this!

I am a widowed single parent, one of my children is also disabled, and so i claim benefits. Without offers like this children like mine would never have a chance of doing anything like this, infact as yet mine never have been lucky enough to get a place as they only offer a very few reduced priced places. Maybe u should try not to stereo type people and judge so quickly, if u had ur income assessed then they would take into account any benefits u are intitled to and if needed any supplements they could offer.

I don't think the original poster was being judgemental Kerry - just pointing out that some kids suffer because their parents work. It's the disposable income that should be assessed and NOT the gross pay of the parents!

My kids would love to go on this camp but we live in south Wales, does this mean they won't be able to go at the discounted rate?

Is transport included from any area to any camp site? We live south east but the closest camps to us aren't doing the courses the twins would want to do

well we work and we cant afford to send our boy - bit unfair if you ask me should be the same price for everybody!!!!
no kids should get special treatment just because their parents dont work

If you notice one of the qualifying benefits is WORKING tax credit, which means a person works but gets a low income, but unfair to judge others!

ayla as i understand it there are 2 collection points.. for the south camps that is in london and for the north camps its somewhere else (sorry cant remember at moment where) BUT u can drive them to the camps yourself if u want

i would advise anyone to apply asap if they want to go, u can print the forms off from the site or maybe ring them up, there are very few discounted places so speed is of the essence here lol

Benefits look around can you see any F* benefits lol to quote the infamous Frank Gallagher.

People complaining they can't afford to send their kids and they work hard I have to say I have experienced both sides of the coin and I have to say whilst claiming "benefits" I couldn't go out and buy something new to wear I couldn't use all these lovely hair products make up etc or even have my hair done. i didn't have sky tv or a phone i could use i certainly couldn't afford to run a car and quite often struggled to stump up for public transport. I couldn't afford to take my kids to the zoo etc and i couldn't afford to go out meals or other. I couldn't have a holiday... even grotty caravans were out of my reach. i often missed bill payments and certainly couldn't have afforded to pay £49 for a summer camp. I ended up on "benefits" through no fault of our own and it was hard... now were back on the other side i can see your frustration but i know life is much more luxurious!!!
I'm an MSE SLACKER!!!! Slap my bum.

Been a long time but i'm back.

I know it can be really difficult to see things from other peoples point of view but as someone who works full time with a husband who works part time and two small children i DO get frustated that we are not eligable for more benifits.we earn less than £19,000 between us which means we do get £100 per month ctc but earn too much to get wtc. As we are repaying debts, paying mortgage bills etc things are v tight and we often cannot afford clothes and if one of the kids needs shoes that is all surplus money for the month gone. We have a tiny food budget and would have no way of affording £150 for the weeks holiday! That said I have never lived on benifits and do not know how we wold cope if we did but sometimes (usually on the last week of the month when i have £20 left to feed my family) i wonder why i bother going to work at all!;)

Thought the Tesco deals offer a bit steep. £100 in vouchers normally gest you £400 in deals yet top price of the holidays £299. Can't see many people going for that.

The whole reason Do it 4 real was set up by the Youth Hostel Association was to give a holiday to disadvantage kids, low income families, looked after children, children with disabilities, young carers who wouldn't normally be able to go on holiday. It is subsidised by the National Lottery for this reason.
Thats why on the form it has places for Social workers to write.
Its about the children who need confidence, to be shown that theres more to life, that they can laugh and smile, that they get away from their lives and maybe, just maybe forget about there life for a while.
