Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 11 February. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread that we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we have achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well.
Morning. Moon is out and there is a touch of frost on the cars. I woke up early as there are several things on my mind.
OH has a job interview today, although it's not her desired position. As a teacher who cannot find any teaching vacancies she is considering a subject coach job till end of summer term. Far less money, but more than the sporadic supply work.... In this climate you can't knock any job opportunity, but it is the right move?
Work at 3pm today as I have to cover a late shift for someone. So this morning I will continue the painting and keep that moving along. Still waiting for my car part although I have no time to put it in till the weekend.
ASDA seemed to have a few deals this week. Several good cereals 2 for £2, Milk 2% 96p, Beef, chicken and pork roasts on on offer. Ragu 2 for £1. and a few others...
Well folks, have a nice day

woken up by to daft kittens tearing around my bedroom!
what i thought of as a thaw yesterday morning was actually black ice, took me 25 minutes to walk to school and about 15 to walk back, as i walked on the road part of the way back. It was so slippy, poor dog was all over the place.
did a BIG ironing yesterday but more washing done ,more to go on and therefore more ironing to do!.........I don't know why this still surprises me!
My son had made an apple crumble at school, so dd1 and I had it last night for supper, it was ........edible! He is usually a lovely cook!!
I must clean bathrooms before I go to work this morning .
Hope you all have a good Thursday, Mx0 -
Morning N9eav and all who cross/follow
cold and frosty here this morning but it didn`t take too long to scrape the car before heading out as it wasn`t as thick as of late.
This is my last day for a couple of days so i`m looking forward to the time off and catching up with the housew*rk. Mr Sunny and i have a day off together tomorrow which is unusual so weather permitting we shall take the houndies somewhere nice for a long walk.
N9eav - it`s Morrisons week for the shopping this weekend ( we alternate between Morrisons & Asda) but i shall check out the offers and maybe call in at a quiet time thanks for the heads up.
Happyroly - our Amy sends thanks for the furry purrs and sends quiet ones back, she was waiting around the corner at the bottom of the stairs this morning to ambush the dog:rolleyes: it`s like Tom and Jerry here at the moment, they both can`t seem to stop tormenting each other.
Tea tonight is paella with garlic bread YUM! i`m looking forward to it. Off for a quick browse whilst it`s quiet
Have a good day peeps.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Good Morning
N9eav- sending good luck for Mrs N9eav for the interview.
No OS here today unfortunately, off to the accountants - hoping for good news. Trouble is he lives 1.5 hours away so a lot of today will be spent on the M25 - joy.
Just about to jump in the shower so thats it for now.
Have a good day all.

Morning all
Hubby has been offered a weeks work at school next week & he's over the moon, so that's good, his family aren't impressed, claiming that sweeping & litter picking are demeaning, I think that translates to 'Sit around without pay for months in case we need you & then we can pay you a pittance,' grrrr, I think that's really selfish of them.
Fingers crossed for Mrs N9eav.
I started early & finished late yesterday to try & keep on top of the work, as it's really busy.
Breakfast - porridge
Lunch - egg sarnies
Tea - fish pie
Thanks for the comments about my blog.
Have a good day everyone
Hugs Hester

Morning all,
Good luck to Mrs N9eav x
And well done to Mr Hester, any work is better than in work in my opinion x
Cold and frosty here again today, will have to leave a bit earlier today, I dont want a repeat of yesterday's skidding.
Off to work today, and something quick with chips for tea tonight, maybe chicken kiev.
We had chicken casserole last night, and OH has taken the rest of the 'soup' type liquid to work today, it was too good to waste, and he can dip his sarnie in it.
DD has french bread with ham, apple, clementine, and 2 small hm cakes. I shall have porridge, and fruit for breakfast, not sure about lunch yet, but I wont starve.
R-mac, any news yet ????
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning :hello:
Mr tru went to the butcher's yesterday (WHY? We have loads of meat in the freezer). He was given sausage skins and a bag of rusk for free - he told me about the free stuff first, thinking I wouldn't mind him spending money. WRONG  I wonder why I bother sometimes. Each time I save money on something, he has to 'upgrade' something else. It's as if we should be spending a certain amount, if I go below it he has to make it back upI'm going to buy certain things instead of making of them for a while, when the money is gone for the week he'll go back to his usual buys and I can start it all off again
We have a couple of friends coming round tonight, they're more mr tru's friends than mine really, and I don't want them here. I don't want anyone visiting at the moment, he knows how I am and what the doc has said. He also knows that I'm not seeing the doc again til next week - surely a couple of weeks with no visitors wouldn't kill him? I might though..............
I'm going out for coffee this morning, and that's one thing I AM looking forward toBulletproof0 -
Morning....very frosty here today.
Well cause i got so much cleaning done yesterday i've got hardly anything to do today (bar hoovering and that).
Got to make my daughters birthday cake today and prep dinner for later (homemade kfc)0 -
Hi everyone.
Hester - there's nothing demeaning about any kind of work. All labour is necessary to keep the wheels of life turning. His family are being really selfish. I hope he has a good week and that it leads to something reliable for him.
R.Mac - please get in touch!
Well, really frosty here but we already have blue sky and it looks bright, so fingers crossed.
The house had a good clean yesterday so I just have two loads of washing to do and some paperwork. I've decided I shall do my food shopping this afternoon; I can't go this morning because DH has taken my car while he has some mechanical thingy fitted into his, but he'll be home by lunchtime so I'll have my car back. I should get some YS bargains, too.
Tru - that must be so infuriating; if he thinks he has to spend up to a certain amount, couldn't you tell him you have already spent that much? My DH is pretty good these days when it comes to food shopping, but I still prefer to go on my own!
Well, I've had my shower even though the bathroom hadn't warmed up. We have a heated towel rail in there but we don't ever use it because I'm worried that I'd leave it on, and it would cost a fortune in electricity. There's no radiator in there, either. Anyway, I survived it.
I hope all those who are unwell or anxious have a good day today. I'm finding it hard to keep up with the thread during the day but I will try and call in when I can.
(((Hugs))) to all.

Morning all:hello: Very frosty here.
Shopping day today.
Farmshop for milk, butter, eggs, cream, apples and veg.
Waitrose for other stuff -flour, wine, citrus fruit, fish, coffee, washing powder, loo roll
Butcher's for bacon, sausages, stewing lamb and to ask about a side of pork. I think I'll order one but I want to know how it'll be cut and whether any of it can be minced. It should cost about £70 for about 50 lbs of meat.
This afternoon I must make cakes for the school Valentine's day cake sale. I'm doing plain fairy cakes with water icing in several shades of pink. I'm topping them with a loveheart or other heart-shaped sweets if I can find any at Waitrose.
Last night we had soup and bread for tea. I rarely serve soup as a main meal but my goodness it was delicious and filling.
Soup for a winter's night
Soak half a packet of soup mix (or dried peas, lentils and barley) overnight.
Fry some finely chopped onion, carrot, celery and leek. I used a tub of my veg hash from the freezer and I fried it in chicken fat leftover from a roast.
Add diced veg -I used carrots, parsnips and potatoes
Add chopped cooked meat -I used leftover baked ham
Add about 2 pints of stock-I used ham stock (made from boiling the ham)
Bring to the boil and simmer until all veg and pulses are soft. I put mine in the oven for about 2 hours while I took dd swimming. A slow cooker would work too.
Everyone had 2 bowls each apart from dd. There's some leftover for my lunch today:j0 -
morning all..Brrrrr so so frosty
Fingers crossed for Mrs N9eav
Mr Hester well done, any job is a job worth doing and is certainly not demeaning, especially in this day and age
TruI seriously think it is a genetic thing programmed into some men, our OS men here excepted of course;)
((((hugs hugs hugs))) to all that are poorly or just need
I haven't caught up with last night's OS daily as I ended up with visitors  Of course they arrived at tea time which I think was deliberate, SIL and her OH and 2 kids. I had taken out enough mince yesterday morning to make up enough spag bog mix for 3 meals for the 3 of us bulked out and we were just going to have scampi and chips for tea.
Needless to say all the spag bog has now been cooked and eaten along with a very very large cheesecake I had made the night before and was going to freeze for special occasions. A full block of cheddar has also gone as SIL asked for biccies and cheese for afters as she didn't want cheesecake and she went to help herself
Bang goes my budget for this month I think. I am so furious as between them they earn more than DH and I and her OH isnt waiting on redundancy. She had the cheek to say where exotic will we go with DH's redundancy payment. My snippy answer was home! That has to keep us till he finds something else and with his medical issue that isn't going to be easy
~takes a deep breath~ there, that feels better...rant over
I suppose I must get some work done now
have a glorious day all
