    That's right. Apparently, they've done it for years with both 1st and 2nd, but it's only 1st this year.

    Asda are doing both, but when I arrived they were sold out of 2nd. I was told they come in every morning, but you have to be there at about 8 am to be sure of getting any, as everybody is snapping them up!

    I bought 5 books in the Victoria Station branch, London. They aren't the plain 1st class stamps though - they're the Christmas ones.

    I assume I'll still be able to use after Christmas, if I don't use them all.

    Yes, you can!

    Safeway had the same offer on first and second class stamps this time last year. Not sure if they are doing it this year though (Probably not knowing Morrisons!) :-/

    Don't know if people are aware that First Class Stamps will cost 31p from Spring 2005.

    ::)

    Didn't know that. Thanks for the info. :)

    First Class stamp will cost 30p from April 2005 (a 7% rise from 28p), although 2nd class remains at 21p - from BBC news
  • i just wish the dole didnt insist upon first calss stamps on stuff i send them, i seem to go through first class stamps like i do sweeties! oh well at least they let me post stuff, instead of traipsing into town to get some.

    me thinks a trip to SD will be necessary next week *as you cant get loyalty points on stamps anyway, so no point, pardon the pun, in buying them anywhere with a points scheme - i noramlly get them in woolies when i get me lotto tickets, but forgot last time and HAD to get them in whsmiths without clubcard points*

    Hi advantage card - just wondering what you meant by the dole insisting you send items to them first class. Don't you use their reply envelopes which has the post already pre-paid?
  • they never send me the pre-paid thingies! i didnt really say, its for postal signing on. i just get a brown envelope with a letter with the addy and a letter with the bit to sign, plus a booklet im supposed to fill in but they let me put in a typed thing instead in lieu of not being good enough to see to fill it in. so hence i end up using stamps like sweeties, as i have to do this twice a month.

  • Hello Advantage :)

    Next time you send in your letter, ask them whether it is possible to put a prepaid envelope in any future letters that they issue to you.

    If it is an automatic letter that they issue, that they cannot enclose an envelope with - ask them to send out a few prepaid envelopes to you at a time so you can respond to them. (the letters cannot go to any other address than jobcentre plus so it is not as though you are using them for other purposes)

    Please let me know how you get on :)
  • Many Government departments, and indeed large organisations in general, have pre-paid envelopes available, especially Benefits Agency, Local Council, etc. You can always phone them (or email them free) and ask for one (or a several) to be sent to you. I've done this plenty of times, and they're usually only too happy to oblige. Of course this doesn't work if you need to send a one-off form in urgently, but the general principle's sound.
