Had a letter through the door from this company, although they are apparently based in Cumbernauld, with an 0845 number. They are offering roof treatment and say that grants and regional subsidies may be available.
We then had someone ring the doorbell asking about loft insulation.
This sounds suspiciously like one of the aforementioned schemes, I am unable to find out anything about council/government grants/subsidies for roofing, this appears to be an attempt to tack roof treatment on to the back of grants for loft insulation.0 -
John Gorman Aquashield is now ripping people off and trying his hand at PV solar. Please be aware he is working his business out of East Kilbride. Aquashield left hundreds of customers high and dry so don't be fooled again by this PV company in east Kilbride. I was a victim of aquashield and want to let everyone know so that they don't get ripped off again by these people who have moved into the PV Market and are on watchdog this week on bbc tv. Week commencing 18.9.11. You have been warned. PV solar uk.0

Nothing whatsoever wrong with moss on a roof (as long as roof underneath is sound), it can actually provide UV protection and make bituminous felts (including bituminous tiling felts) last longer. If you are that bothered by it then get up there, clean it off and install a thin copper strip at the top. This will give you natural protection from moss.
Save the money till it fails and then spend it on a new roof!0 -
I agree and disagree.
I disagree with moss being any use on a roof.
It stops water from flowing off the roof, blocks gutters and is a mess.
On flat roofs it on it's own may help a bit but it also encourages other plants with roots to seed and I have seen these actually grow through the felt.
If ever you have a new felt roof do not have stones as the solar reflectant. They are a great place for moss to take hold.
I do agree with saving the money for when the roof actually NEEDS attention, bit of common sense that.
Next problem people are going to have is getting their roofs maintained once they are covered in solar panels which of course will NOT save the planet.
"Oohh mr roofer I see a broken tile in my gutter but can't see where it is from"
" Me neither mrs, see ya"!0 -
How strange.
Almost a year to the day I find myself resurecting this thread.
Why?
To advise.
Do not, I repeat DO NOT have your roof coated by ANYONE with ANYTHING. (That goes for that ridiculous insulation foam sprayed on the uderside of the tiles inside the loft as well)
I have argued throughout this thread the negatives of having your roof sprayed with gunk.
This week I have seen first hand proof.
I am re felting several flat roofs on a large dormer bungalow that has had this dross sprayed onto the tiles.
What a mess!
The moss is back with a vengance, the verge pointing has been painted black, yes painted, probably to make it look uniform from the ground.
There are broken tiles here and there, just as predicted.
I have had to provide about 25 new tiles, guess what? they don't match. How could they?
I haven't got a tub of gunk to paint them with.
The owners know they made a very expensive and very bad decision and don't want to talk about it.
If this post stops just one person from wasting their hard earned then it was worth dragging this thread up from the depths!!0 -
have u a link
they are a rip off company, having done a very poor job of my roof,i tried to claim on their "10 year guarantee" only to discover that they had gone out of business! i then contacted the finance company who supplied the finance who then told me that the guarantee ONLY covers "peeling or flaking paint and discolouration " never mind the fact that all the re-pointing that aquashield done has all but fallen out! and the moss is re-growing on the supposedly treated roof!! I HAVE LEARNED THE HARD WAY AND I HOPE THIS WILL SERVE AS A WARNING TO ANYONE CONSIDERING GETTING THIS DONE TO THEIR ROOFS!! DONT!! IT IS JUST A WASTE OF MONEY!!!!!!!0 -
Damn it tg72, I failed to save you from your misery.
I shall bash my thumb with a hammer today as punishment.
But seriously folks, in a post on this thread way back I mentioned a house just up the road from me that had this muck sprayed on their roof.
They now have mortar falling out of the ridge tiles.
They will need it re pointing one day, what a mess that will look.
Red (obviously painted) tiles, ridges and mortar with patched up fresh mortar, lovely.
Great selling point!0 -
I also had work carried out on my roof by Aquashield.
After reading another post in this forum I am now in the early stages of trying to reclaim this money back through the finance company.
I hope everyone else who was misold this product does the same.0 -
Sorry to see yet another victim.
How this practice isn't outlawed by now amazes me.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.0
