Hello all again, so my card has arrived and as intended, shopping and petrol have gone on it. I've made a payment via debit card to clear the balance and am keeping an eye on the account online.

I was just wondering how long payments take to show up? Also I notice that purchases also take some time to show up and whilst I tried to clear my entire balance, I couldn't as these payments were not showing yet. I'm getting a little suspicious that this may be to keep me from clearing my entire balance before statement day.

Also, over the telephone whilst signing up, I did ask for minimum only to be taken as a direct debit. Not because I want a balance on the card, but because it is attached to an account I transfer money to solely to pay bills and I'm happy paying it off throughout the month - but my DD agreement states monthly payment full/minimum. Just wondering which one it is?

This credit lark is giving me a headache already lol
you can pay what you like if you take the Vanquis card statement into your bank and pay it there ie I check my balance owing by phoning Vanquis before I take my statement into the bank (as there may be later transactions on it that I want to pay off) then tell the bank cashier how much I want to pay to my Vanquis card with the statement. I've never had a problem doing this. I have no minimum direct debit set up with my Vanquis card.

I find that it is easier to pay online, via Vanquis's own system or if you dont want them to have your card details then you can pay through your banks online banking system. I think most banks have the search facility, just type in vanquis and it should come up with their sortcode and account number. The account number has loads of cool zeros :) and then you populate your long card number. My payment usually shows up next working day.

Has anyone got the Alpha card from Vanquis?

Other half has bad credit and she applied for vanquis but got declined, but offered an 'Alpha' card, with an APR of 79.9%!!!!

Apparently if you manage it properly you will eventually be able to upgrade to the Vanquis card.

She's gone ahead with it as it's a start, but there's no way on this planet she's keeping a balance on it. Will be paid off in full each month.

That a loan shark imprinted in plastic :rotfl: She better do otherwise it gonna be more harm than good in her pocket. ;)

  • I've had my Vanquis card for just under four years now. I got it when I was a student, trying to build my credit score. At first, I kept missing payments and maxing it out but ten months later, I got my act together and started paying it off every month - sometimes in full, other times in part payment. I always paid well above the minimum payment though.

About a year later I got a credit limit increase out of the blue. The letter said that they were impressed with the way I was managing my card and so they were increasing my limit as a reward.

I know of other people who got their increases much sooner, and a few others who got them later than I did. I suppose there's no set time for an increase? It's more of a personal thing regarding your account management, your monthly repayments, ect.

I disagree with people who say that Vanquis is a rubbish credit card. Use it right and you won't have to pay the high interest rate. You can make the card work for you and build up your credit score before moving onto a high street lender who's interest rate is more manageable.

Vanquis was my first ever credit card and I have to say, it's both gotten me in debt ( only when I first started using it ) and helped me out. It's all a matter of attitude and the way you use it.

I got my card in July, 1st statement in August and the 4th statement I paid on Monday. I pay in full each month and use most of my £250 balance. My next statement is due on Monday.....any idea how long before I get an increase?
  • Should be on your 4th statement now teabag, limit increases with Vanquis is 'usually' every 4 months ;)

To the OP you need to keep a balance even if small one so a statement is produced otherwise it will show you having a £0 balance and other providers will assume that you have not used the card. This kind of activity will not help increase you credit score.

    Hope this is clear..

I'd say "rarely" every four months judging by the posts on here :)

I've got Vanquis Granite, Cap 1 (x 2) and Aqua (x 2) and I've had raises on all but the Vanquis!!
  • ive just been accepted! applied online this afternoon, received phonecall and been accepted! he talked me into the plan they offer, but i did ensure i can opt out at any time but as im using this purely as a credit builder and paying balance before the statement their charge of £1.29 per £100 wont affect me and i did ask if i can do this and by doing so will my credit file show ive borrowed and repaid and he said yes.....is this correct?

Vanquis' Repayment Option Plan is a pretty poor offering. It simply means that everything you buy with your card will cost you an extra 1.29% and you're unlikely to get anything in return for it.

Other lenders won't look upon it with awe when they see your credit history. They won't even be aware of it.

It will artificially increase your balance by 1.29%. How much are you planning to spend on the card every month? £500? Anyone looking at your credit report would see that as a balance of £506.45. Probably not enough to put a positive spin on an otherwise poor or okayish credit report. It just means you pay out a little more each month. I'd rather spend the money on a book or chocolate, but if you'd rather donate it to Vanquis that's fine. Perhaps you're more charitable than I am. :rotfl:
