Good morning MSE members.
Ive been a regulary use of this site for many months however have always found the information i was looking for so never really needed to register to ask a question however, after reading posts on the Vanquis thread wanted to post to ask a couple of questions.
I had a vanquis card back in 2002 while in my younger years struggled to meet the repayments and so defaulted on the original card. some 10 years later I was later accepted for a Granite card also run by vanquis, i was sceptical at first as I have a really bad credit history. Upto now I owe in excess of £10k and have 2 CCJ's on my credit file. One of those CCJ's is shortly due to reach the 6 years requirement so im hoping that this falls off.
I applied for the card and recieved a phone call the next day it was only then when i was told I had been accepted did i decide to come here and read some comments about the company. At the time i actually took the PPI and also the CCP protection, which would give me unlimited access to my credit files. I thought this would be a invaluable assest in my quest to resolve issues on my credit report. I was previsouly paying Equifax £7.99 a month for there monthly service so i was quite pleased when i was offered access to both Experian and Equifax for just £6.99. I regulary recieve emails from Equifax informing me something has changed on my credit file and i find it invaluable that i can login and see whats happened.
I have actually managed to stop people using my name at a previous address because of this service trying to order good in my name but using a differenet date of birth.
I took out the Cash Advance at the time of the phone call not realising that this would cost me dearly. im still yet to recieve my first statement from Vanquis therefor wanted to ask anybody here whats the best thing to try and stop paying interest on this cash advance. I have the money to clear the balance now. should i clear before the statement date in order to reduce interest or should i wait until the statement has been made and then pay it.
I only intend to use this card for Fuel payment and pay back in full each month. I also read here that other people also applied for a a JD Williams account, i did this also and was accepted althought the credit limit was low it gives me the option to show other companies i can make repayments on credit agreements.
i have since switched my electic and gas to monthly bill do these show on credit files i know they do when you dont pay them, finally do searches drop off credit files and there are a few defaulted debts on my file going back to 2003 can these be removed.
Im concerned that some say Settled even though there is a balance outstanding and some say defaulted even though there going back 10 years.
I know i went a litle off topic so please feel free to place this elsewhere if its considered to be none appropiate to the topic.
Any comments, feedback or oppinions greatly appreciated.0 -
Anyone every have a problem with Vanquis and statements. I never got one this month and when I logged on to my account, it just jumps from feb to april.
Phoned vanquis, and they said they would have to escalate this but that was over 10 days ago and I have not heard anything since.
I payed the balance in full just incase they mark me down for a late payment charge, but Iam not sure how this will affect my 4th statement credit limit increase.0 -
Has anyone actually been able to close their Vanquis account?! I called them on Saturday and ended up annoyed and frustrated. I paid my balance in full on the same day my statement was produced, the payment shows on my account as being the same date. My statement said my estimated interest if I did not pay in full was £2.73, but obviously I did so that won't be charged. Vanquis told me I could not close my account because of the estimated interest. I pointed out the above and they said there was nothing they could do, and I have to call back when I get my next statement. THEN they said I must have 2 zero balance statements before I can close my account, so that means I'll have to wait until June  They also mentioned deferred interest, but from what I can tell that is charged on the balance between your statement being produced and you paying, which in my case is £0. Help!!!31/12/2006 £8395, 01/10/2008 £5089.73, 19/10/2010 £835.00 31/03/2011 £0.00

to be fair
I assume thats to cover any payment/charges that could still to be processed in those 2 months0 -
It sounds odd, but chances are its just a quirk of the way their systems work. You know the balance is zero; you have your statement to show it, so the estimated interest ought to be irrelevant.
Just don't use it, and write to them instead - they don't have much choice but to action it as soon as they possibly can that way.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
I paid off my account several months ago. I then called them to close the account. I very soon after received a latter which stated that the account had been closed and that there had been a zero balance at time of closure..
Very efficient to be honest.
All in all my vanquis experience was excellent, from
£250 to £ 2750 in 2 years and no hassles at all.
was never close to the limit though!!0 -

Something definitely wrong with their site. I paid my balance 7 April and it's never appeared. It was a FasterPayment too and it completed AFAIK.
Will give it 2-3 days and then phone them. This is why I always double check FPs.0 -
I was just having trouble getting my online statements then when I did there appears to be a cash advance fee for £4 on there! I haven't had a cash advance so I'll phone them later...Anyone else had this?0
