  • I've been with Vanquis for a year now and still no increase! 1 missed payment and 1 over limit and that's it! Always paid at least double the minimum payment... oh well, maybe one day!!!

Like me - had one increase after like 4 months but nothing since, rung earlier to close but they said I need to do it in writing, so I told them that I earn £100 per hour and it'd be cheaper for them to have my PA write it - they got confused bless.....

I reiterated that if they want me to write in I will charge them accordingly, or to save costs my PA will do it who only earns £25 per hour.

I think they soon realised what I was getting at and confirmed my account will be closed within the next 10 days!

Bye Bye Vanquis.... good riddance :rotfl:

p.s. No I do not earn that wage lol - was being clever!

Hahaha! Love it!! I've paid a load of money to them over the past two weeks and should have the card completely clear by the end of the month or so, then it'll be used very sparringly so we'll see what happens then... just really frustrating when you know you're doing right with it if you know what I mean!

That's what they told me once but it still doesn't make sense. I looked at their T&Cs and the only explanation I could think of was this...with a Vanquis Card you get 56 days interest-free but If you use your card on the day a statement is issued and have a direct debit set up for the full amount the DD sometimes gets taken more than 56 days after the transaction (e.g. if there are 31 days in the month the DD could be 57 days after the transaction). So the system charges interest on that one transaction and rounds it up to the minimum finance charge. To avoid this you would need to pay in full within 56 days of all the transactions on the statement.

I've had arguements with them about silly charges too! I got my statement in one month and it had a late payment charge on it!! So I looked out my last statement and noted all the payments I had made (several smaller payments on a weekly basis but still equalled more than the minimum payment) when I phoned them to ask why I had been charged they said (wait for it!) "because the first payment recorded reached us on the same day as your statement was produced the system doesn't record it" and it just happened that the first payment was the minimum payment and the rest was just over and above that so to them, I hadn't paid the mimimum payment! I told them that I had never heard of anything so stupid in my life and they actually refunded the charge. But the girl said that they would continue to charge me if it continued to happen!!! Anyone else ever heard of this??? It seems as though their system just cannot cope with you using/making payments to your account on your statement date!!! Is that our fault?!?!?

Well that would be why then. They only guarantee an increase if you manage your account well.
  • Hm, I have had my Vanquis card just over a month, have had my first statement and paid it, in full, although the payment date is not actually until the 1st Feb.

My Vanquis account shows on my Equifax report but NOT my Experian report.... is this normal? Will it eventually appear? The whole point of this is to improve my score!!!

Yup, their system is seriously !!!!!!, can't cope with payments on the statement date, also will charge you £1 interest if a transaction is posted during the statement date even though you're clearing the balance in full all the time.

Is that really necessary? I have a child with special needs. No call for that.

I meant no disrespect. I myself suffer from special needs; I am on the autistic spectrum and suffer from aspergers syndrome.

I am also homosexual, and use the term "gay" as a derogative on a regular basis, I find that put into context it is not offensive.

Apologies if my prior comment was.

EDIT: Although, to be fair, if I piped up every time I heard someone using "Special needs" or "gay" (both of which I am) as derogative, I'd be widely known as a self righteous !!!!!.
