My personal answer to this is that its the people who fake illnesses such as depression who cause the government to crack down on benefits in order to weed out the benefit cheats.

I agrre in part but I think what really causes the crackdown is the fact that the numbers of with depression has increased dramatically

This is why they have stopped my Incapacity Benefit because they are having a purge (the Citizens Advice Bureau told me this - Im not just assuming).

They may be having a purge but they havent stopped that many peoples benefit so I would question that that is the reason for yours stopping

So the people that fake and cheat cause genuine people to lose their benefits.

I dont think they cause much genuine loss but no doubt they cause the gov to look harder.

I suffer badly from depression and can't work and am now having to fight to get the benefit back.

Depression may stop someone from doing the job they were in but to say one cant work full stop is going to go against their medical advice.

If there were no benefit cheats then life would be a lot easier for people who are genuinely ill or disabled. So whilst I couldn't care less when other people do these sort of things with their lives, I do when it has a knock on effect on me!
Interesting points but if there were no cheats there would still be medicals and controls. I think the cheat just wakes the government machinery up a bit.
The other thing is that work is seen as good for recovery.
Who I am is not important. What I do is.

AB, I really don't think your comments to Beachbeth about her being able to work is going to help her to feel better about herself. I know many drs say that work will help depression, my own said that to me. But you don't know what BB's GP has said to her about work, so you really can't say she is going against her medical advice!
I'm sure you are trying to be encouraging, but please don't judge others.

I'm really paying now for all the stress of going out earlier. I'm sorry for my angry post. I feel so ill and muzzy headed I don't really know what I'm doing or saying. I just want to sleep and not wake up.

Hi, rosepink!! Thankyou for your lovely message. I just feel totally sick all the time I can't even stand the smell of food. I just go out the room when other people are eating so I don't have to watch or make them feel awful about it. My mum keeps trying to force me to eat when I really don't want to. It's not doing me any harm it's helping me lose weight :)

I had to nip out before too which I hate going out aswell I had to get some potatoes for my mum for her tea. I picked a right awful time (when the schools come out) to go out typical!

I had a sniff at some soup before but didn't really fancy it :(

If you need to let stuff out please PM me it sounds like you could do with a friend :)

AB: It does seem that you are a bit harsh on people I know you're only offering advice but sometimes people need a soft approach instead of the harsh approach. Have you ever suffered with depression yourself?

Sorry i wasnt clear enough. my answers were from the government perspective Wher I said medical advice I meant the governments. I dont judge on here I make observations. As you say i dont know BB's situation but she would probably de ill advised to not think about what the tribunal will say and if someone says they cant work the next question is likely to be something about specifically what cant you do. I worked fro the DHSS as it was then for about 8 yrs and not that much has changed.

Have you ever attended one of these tribunals, AB? Do you know what happens in them?

This isn't what they said at the Citizens Advice Bureau! They said it was happening to a lot of people and I was one of many. How do you know that they haven't stopped that many?

I also rang the Tribunals service to ask if they knew when my tribunal would be and they said they've got a backlog and I would be lucky if it was March or before, which suggests they have a lot of people appealing against their stopped benefits.

Now one thing that has crossed my mind is that someone has reported you. I say this because when I read what you say something doesnt add upbut Icant quite put my finger on it so Im wondering if you have been reported by someone who knows or lives near you. This is quite common.

I don't know if this is the case. When you say that theres something that doesn't add up, please try to think what it is and perhaps I can clarify? Sometimes my posts may have details missing but its because I don't want anyone Im talking about, including myself, to be identified and also we have to be careful here what we say about meds and treatment.

I rarely talk about my IB to anyone and I don't think people who live near me would even know Im on benefits - we only say hello to neighbours every now and then and don't chat much to them.

Also, I attended a Personal Assessment medical in November and wasn't given enough points at this medical and this is why they stopped my IB. So I simply put it down to this. I was having a good day on the particular day of this medical and so probably didn't appear as bad as I usually am. Also the doctor has written the opposite of some of the things I told him. Eg, he asked if I had trouble sleeping and I said I regularly wake up in the early hours and so he asked if I had had a good nights sleep the previous night and I said yes, I had, (but it was mainly because I had drunk a lot as I was nervous about my medical and I didn't mention this). So he put on the medical form that I slept well! This is just one example.

On another note, I have been meaning to say to you, AB, that I hope you don't think Im always having a go at you on this thread but you are always raising interesting/controversial points to do with depression and I usually question what you say not just because I may disagree but because I want to know more about where you are coming from!

Please feel free to PM if you want to ask me anything that I may not be able to post the answer to on this thread.

    Hi guys

    A quick update

Been enjoying the lovely weather - I hate November to February - I get really bad SAD. Since the days have got longer, I have perked up. Been great seeing the snow on the beach, white sand:D, and a warm spring day out of season - only in March!

Been out househunting but still found nothing, still finger's x'd, no notice given yet (sssh don't want to tempt fate)

    Hugs to who needs them:)
