  • Not red roses as they are a thank you present for a neighbour but I bought some lovely cream roses today from Tesco instore at £3.99 and a rectangular shaped vase for another £3, both well worth the money.

I was sent flowers at Christmas time via a local florist, they lasted all of three days, another expensive time for flowers icon8.gif

Thank you to whoever posted the tip about single roses from Asda, I am lunching with some friends on Tuesday and that will be a nice idea to cheer them up icon7.gif

If you send flowers from one end of the country to another, make sure you ask whoever you’re ordering through how they will deliver them. The multiples will send their flowers via a courier from a central warehouse.

What you have to be careful of are all these websites or the big yellow pages advertisers who don’t have local addresses or phone numbers to where you want the flowers delivered. Even if you Google or look in https://www.yell.co.uk for a florist in say Durham you’ll get one or two that look local (they ‘buy’ the addresses to look local), but aren’t. All they will do to send your order is to relay it through to a local Teleflorist or Interflora member, some even ring a florist in the delivery area and pay by debit or credit card over the phone. These companies make their money on the relay charges, anything from £3.50 up, and take a 'slice' off your order value before they pass it on and you don’t get anything for that money.
Last year on Watchdog there was a company who say took an order for £35, then passed it onto a florist in the delivery area for a £15 bouquet.

Use https://www.Yell.com, find a florist where you want the flowers delivered make sure its a local phone number (none of the 0800, 0808 or 0870 rubbish and has a proper name sounding shop name) and give them the order. Make sure though you ask if they will relay the order or deliver it themselves.

  • 12 RED ROSES FOR JUST 81 PENCE - YES REALLY!
Today I went into my local Wooly's and headed straight for the pick 'n' mix, on finding the "Roses chocolates" selection I proceeded to pick out 12 of the red ones and took them to the counter and duly paid my 81 pence. Now my good lady will hopefully take my gift of love in good humour and allow me to take her out for dinner with the money I have saved. Happy Valentines Day one and all.

Tesco Single Rose £1.99 (also looked dead)

    Asda Single Rose £1
    Asda Deluxe Single Rose £1.50
  • I got married on valentines day in 1992. We went to the local florist to get my bouquet, buttonholes etc.
My 'friendly' local Interflora florist (Floral Roundabout, Worcester) told me that she had more than enough business on valentines day as it was without having to think about wedding flowers.
So much for supporting your local florist. I have never set foot in a florist shop since.
Because its valentines day and our wedding anniversary, I have asked hubby to get my roses from Tesco at £4.98. They are guaranteed for 7 days and I am happy with that. The amount we will save on the florists price hike will buy us the majority of our meal out!

    Happy Valentines day everyone !! :heart2: :heart2: :heart2: :smileyhea :heart2: :heart2: :heart2:

You don’t need to splash the cash to show you care this Valentine’s Day. To help I've compared the prices of roses both in-store and delivered at the supermarkets. Of course some local outlets may be cheaper, but this is a great benchmark.

Cheapest In-store Roses At Major Retailers

After comparing prices at all the big retailers for a dozen red roses, I found the cheapest in store bunch was a bargainous £4.48 at Tesco available 12 Feb (the next cheapest was £7.99 at Aldi or you can get a bunch of six for £3.99 at Somerfield).
And if you’re worried that supermarket roses don’t exactly scream romance, simply replace the packaging with some posh-looking wrapping paper.

    Cheapest Delivered Roses

If you want to impress Ms/ Mr Right with courier delivery, Asda Online has 12 red roses for £15.94 including delivery, closely followed by
Tesco.com* at £15.97. Through bear in mind that the price of red roses rockets at this time of year; so to cut down the price you could treat your ickle wickle bunny rabbit to pink roses or tulips instead.

For those wanting the stem de la stem, its possible to get 12 Grand Prix Roses for £35 at Crocus

From martins list of red rose's prices - I went to Asda, the roses are priced as £4.60 for 1/2 dozen, and £9.99 for dozen, not £8.50 as quoted in martins email. Has anyone else found this? Did Asda change their pricing over the last few days?

    Augustine.
