THIS GREAT HUNT WAS ORIGINALLY STARTED IN 2006, SO SOME OF THE LINKS OR PRODUCTS MAY BE OUT OF DATE, YET MOST OF THE IDEAS ARE BUILT TO LAST.
All those choccys, roses and candlelit dinners might earn you brownie points, but they can come with a rather unromantic price tag attached.
The aim of this great hunt is to collect a database of the best ways to treat your loved-one without the two of you fighting over money til May. I want MoneySavers to share their tips on how to get the sloppiest cards, tastiest chocs and most romantic flowers, all at the best price. Even better, as the best things in life are free, please post suggestions on ways to show you care for nowt.
Please include:
*The treat
*How much?
*Where can you get it?

The origin of Valentine's Day
Valentine was a priest in Rome in the third century, during the rule of the emperor Claudius the Second. A lot of wars were breaking out in the Roman Empire, but not enough men were joining the army. The married men wanted to stay with their families, so the emperor decided to ban marriage and forced the men to get ready to go off to war. Many couples went to Valentine asking to be married, and he continued to perform the ceremony secretly. Eventually the emperor heard about what was happening and sent his soldiers to arrest Valentine. Valentine was killed in prison on 14th February 270. He was later made a saint, and represents the ideas of love and sacrifice.:T It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice. :T"A bargain is something you can't use at a price you can't resist."

THE PICKLE PUCKER JAR
Last year at valentine's, I got a big glass pickle jar from a restaurant, scrubbed it clean, and painted the jar with flowers, hearts, sunshine, clouds, etc.
Then I got a bunch of "fancy" doodle pads and began writing reasons & reminders of how & why I love my husband. It didn't stop there-- I began collecting little poems, quotes, and song lyrics to add to the pot.
When my husband is having a rough day he can open the lid and reach in for a "boost". This jar was easy to make and VERY personal, and he enjoys it year around. I love to collect stuff for the jar as well!
Perhaps you may be able to pick up one of those jars with the flip up glass lids and rubber seals, do the same thing. You could pick up window paints quite cheaply some place.

Cheapest seems to be Swotbooks at £5.09 including delivery for a glass painting kit.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0
