  • Morrisons are selling 1 Dozen red roses for 4.99
  • I took advantage of the supersaver rate at Travelodge and booked an ensuite room for £10. I'm making a yummy indoor picnic to take (well, you have to eat even if you stay home!) I've made my own card (free)with my own silly soppy verse, (you can get free inspiration from loads of online card sites if you need to)... am taking scented fabric rose petals (£1 from poundshop), my cd player, romantic music, plug in nightlights (candles might set the smoke alarms off!), a bottle of Blossom Hill (£4 from Tesco), my wine cooler, and some fruit and yoghurt (for dipping etc...)..."Treats" Jar - a jar with pieces of paper in which have written on them a variety of "treats" ;) for you or your partner to participate in (free)!

I know it's not the Ritz, but it isn't home, there aren't any kids, cats, dogs or phones and Travelodge is always clean, tidy and has lovely fresh towels!

    So... Overall you get:
    1 night in hotel £10
    Personalised card - max £1
    Romantic touches - £1
    Food - under £10
    Music - free
    Booze - £4
Fun jar of treats - free ;)
... and of course, the company of the person you love! Priceless :D

    The Treat -

    Chocolate covered strawberries.

    How much -

Tescos have strawberries at £1.99 for 400g just now, hopefully they'll still be around in a few weeks. You could use marshmallows too I suppose. Good quality chocolate for melting, Lindt & Sprungli at £1.20 per 100g or 25p for Tesco Value for the same amount.

Where can you get it -

    Most supermarkets.

    Here's what to do.

Freeze dried strawberries covered in white chocolate, £2 for a KILO on the sweet stall on Leicester market!

Personally I wouldn't bother with the star naming. The same with buying a piece of the moon. None of these companies have any "rights" to sell stars , planets or the moon. They are just selling an expensive piece of paper which you could just as well print out yourself for free! Though I suppose you could argue it is a bit of fun and you might like the crystal.

  • So why isn't this history on file ?

St. Dwynwen's Day 25th January - the Welsh equivalent of St. Valentine's

Dwynwen is the patron saint of Welsh lovers and lived during the 5th century. She was said to be one of the 24 children fathered by the then King of Wales, Brychan of Brycheiniog (Brecon). She was renown to be both very religious and pure and was also said to be enchantingly beautiful, thereby attracting the attention of many love struck men. As the legend goes, one evening Dwynwen's father held a feast and a young Prince called Maelon Gwynedd fell in love with her. There are many interpretations of what happened next, some claim that Maelon was so outraged that Dwynwen had chosen a life of a nun that he raped her. It is written that she was visited by an angel, became a nun and settled on Llanddwyn island off the west coast of Anglesey. It is there that she founded a church or convent and it is said that she was joined by many brokenhearted women. She died around 460 AD. The remains of the 16th century church can be seen on Llanddwyn today although the site is attributed to that of the church founded by Dwynwen. Pilgrimages have been made to the site over the centuries, particularly from young lovers seeking assurances of their future lives together.
