Cheapest Red Roses for Valentine’s – the results!

  • Sorry Martin, this is the WORST Money Saving Tip I've ever seen on the site as it doesn't really do that. All it does is tells the customer about the price of inferior products. It is does not do it's job. These roses will be low grade, small heads and thin, short stems, possibly not a very nice shaped head or a very nice red colour, too. Best option for would be to buy one stem of a fabulous rose - with a beautiful shaped head and colour from a proper florist who knows about flowers. A single 1m stem of a seductive, beautiful rose (Passion's a good one or Grand Prix) may cost about £5 next week but what a difference. Girls don't really want tat, they want quality. There is no comparison - like comparing an old banger with a top of the range Aston Martin! or sacking with silk. Get the gist?
  • I have to agree with flowergirl. My wife turns her nose up at any rose unless it's a Grand Prix.

There was an advert on TV last night for Marks and Spencers for Grand Prix Roses and they did look amazing (unfortunately my wife saw the ad too!)

Just done a quick check on prices for these roses online and it would appear that very few online florists sell these far superior stems. However, here are a few:

    12 Extra-Long Stemmed Grand Prix® Roses with Gift Box - https://www.marksandspencer.com - £69.50
    A Dozen Grand Prix Roses - https://www.serenataflowers.com - £49.99
    Grand Prix Perfection - https://www.sainsburysflowers.co.uk - £55.00

Go on, you know she's worth it!

The other thing to remember is the latest dates for ordering. Lots of online florists close for Valentine's Day orders on Friday PM, so don't leave it too late, or you'll end up buying the wilted bunch of carnations from the petrol station!!
  • they have refunded the £10 - should have put discount code, but it's not the clearest thing to see.............I still can't find it: but they have been very good and resolved it

  • Ditto Flowergirl... if my Mrs. even got a sniff that she was getting anything less than the best from me I'd be wearing the roses round my head !

I think where romance is concerned you can't cut corners.
Like a priceless jewel buried in dark layers of soil and stone, earth radiates her brilliant beauty into the caverns of space and time.

Stately trees seem to brush the deep blue sky. Clouds billow to form magestic peaks. The songs of birds fill the air creating symphony upon symphony

I wish I could get my beloved to even think of buying a rose, never mind a Grand Prix one.......and I totally agree with Flowergirl...one fabulous rose is better than a bunch.....though at the end of the day, its the thought that counts!!!!

    :-)
  • ...and if its definately the lovely grand prix roses you are after there is a good deal to be found at https://www.crocus.co.uk/valentines/roses/

    In their words:

These are 'the Dog's' ! The sultriest rose you can buy. The petals are like velvet and they ooze class! There is no other rose that comes close (maybe Baccarat) and you won't find them cheaper anywhere else. They cost £9 more at Asda, £17 more at Tesco's and £31 more at M&S!

But she actually removed the link from her post. By you quoting it, it is still there on the site for all to see.

I agree with the argument that quality roses is what is needed on Valentine's day and I got the Grand Prix ones last year which were loved by my g/f. This year may get them or also tempted by black roses. See this website...

  • Those crocus roses could be the 60cm stem rather than the 90cm stem that are sold on other sites. Well worth checking that the flowers have the impact that you want them to have.

'Grand Prix Roses' on a MoneySaving site

Of course there are more expensive roses, some of which will increase the quality. I'm sure its possible to get a celebrity florist to do a £1,000 worth of flowers which would be unsurpassable. Yet this site is MoneySavingExpert.com not WorldsMostLuxiourious.com.

Valentines day is a lovely romantic day, yet many people with little cash feel pushed into overextending themselves. Have a look on the Debt-Free Wannabee board. The aim of this was to compare supermarket flowers primarily for price.

This thread is to help people get nice roses, a dozen at a reasonable price. I'm sure there are many (mainly women) who would adore to get flowers regardlesss of whether they're Grand Prix or not.

So while I wouldn't want to dissuade those who can afford and justify the expense to get even more grand roses (making sure they're still good value) some of the above posts do seem to be a little judgemental here, and forget MSE is a broad church. I do believe its slightly churlish to poo-pooh all those who can't justify the expense, for some even £4 on flowers is a major extravagence, and would ask you to respect that. I've added in Grand Prix roses to the list.

I wish everyone a happy, lovely, romantic Valentines day, that doesn't score holes in their pockets
