worth noting, if you have an existing contract coming to an end you may get your existing provider to match this - or better it.
O2 gave me a sony c702, 100 minutes, 250 texts a month for 18 months at £5 a month.

just had a look at the virgin mobile site - there are 10 'free' phones to choose from now and a further 10 that you can pay an upgrade fee for.

I have just taken out a mobile 'phone contract with 'Orange'

it is for an 18 month contract.

this includes a Nokia 6500 slide phone in Silver (or a Samsung Flip in Purple)

300 x network minutes at any time

100 texts

Free UK landline calls during Off Peak Periods

plus 30 minutes Free Video messaging for the first 3 months

an Extra 30 texts per month from the Orange website

surely this tops the 'Virgin' deal ..!

Nope, only the 3 deal includes Skype, and then only via the Planet 3 portal. It's worth noting again that if you use the wider mobile web on the 3 phone you'll pay £2/MB though, so straying further than 'Planet 3' - even only briefly - can get very costly. Add-on data packs assuage this, but take the contract cost out of the budget price bracket.

The virgin deal doesn't include any data services as standard, but only charges 30p for each day's data, meaning there's far less chance of a truly astronomical bill blindsiding you.
