    Hiya :)

We have an older thread on cleaning silver so I've added your post on to the end of it. Posts are listed in date order so you'll need to read from the beginning :)

There are a couple of other threads in the Cleaning section of the MEGA Index sticky at the top of Old Style listed under "Silver:" that might help you too.

    Good luck :)

Oh my goodness - have just tried bicarb of soda and lemon juice and it brought my bracelet and ring up a treat in less than 5 mins - and they were so tarnished they were almost black.
    Wow!!

Ive cleaned mine in a warm solution of dettol for years... allsorts, engagement rings, old fashioned crystal jewellery, silver, gold, costume. Never had any damage and you can see the muck come out in the water ewww

Light brushing with an old soft toothbrush and rinse and pat dry

Brings stones up all clean and sparkly and is good for cleaning earrings too :D

Any suggestions for cleaning my sterling silver celtic knot earrings? They get manky cos I wear them every day, but I'd like an OldStyle MSE way to get them sparkling!

General cleaning for silver is hot water and washing up liquid!!!! If they are tarnished, make a paste of salt and lemon juice and that will brighten them up!

Like catowen, I soak jewellery in hot water and washing up liquid or stardrops and then give them a gentle brush with an old toothbrush. If you do this once a week or so it seems to act as a preventitive measure and stops them getting really dirty or tarnished.

If they are tarnished you can remove it by placing tin foil in a dish, add soda crystals and pour on hot water. Immerse the earrings, leave for a few minutes, then rinse, dry and polish. I don't know why it works but it does.

A little bit of toothpaste on a soft brush does it for my jewellery. Ot toothpaste on a soft cloth - maybe micro fibre cloth?
