  • hi

did a search last night on cleaning jewellery but couldn't see anything straight off ... normally I use brown vinegar with a big of washing up liquid.

    however...

since coming on MSE I now proudly (and somewhat ignorantly!) own vinegar and soda crystals amongst others ...

and have made a jewellery solution out of that, based on the separate "wow" merits of each...

so... do I dive to the kitchen and get it out the solution before the diamonds fall out, or does it work?! any better ideas if that isn't a recommended one please?!

    thank you!

Enthusiastic and probably misguided Windy! :o:p

you need to be really careful with precious stones as many of them you are not suuposed to get wet at all (this applies to pearl and MoP as well)

    Hi WindChim,

    This is what I do.....

If it's tarnished, scrunch up some tin foil and put in the bottom of a dish. Pour some warm/hot but not boiling water on top and add soda crystals. Immerse the jewellery in it.

If they're just mucky (more likely if you wear them every day) put in a glass, add some warm water and either washing up liquid or stardrops. Leave overnight and brush with an old toothbrush in the morning.

There are some threads on this......give me a minute and I'll have a look for them.

half the battle with jewellery is storing it correctly. make sure chains are not tangled, stones etc are protected against accidental scratching

Hi all. Hoping you can help me.

Have just bought a nice sterling silver necklace and hubby doesn't have access at work to silver dip anymore for when it inevitably tarnishes. Instead of me buying silver dip I was wondering if you knew of any OS/natural things I could use for when it needs doing? We have a bet on to see if it involves vinegar :rotfl:

    Thanks all in advance.
