I keep a silver cloth for cleaning my jewellery :)

There are other suggestions in this older thread; I'll merge this later.

    Hiya,
not sure if this is the right board for my question, please redirect me if not:)

I have some bits of silver jewellery but some of it is tarnished (probably my own fault for leaving it out in the air?). They're necklaces and pendants. I was wondering what might be the best method to clean them up, and the best method of storage afterwards?
I have now moved everything into a drawer, in boxes...

i find silver tarnishes wherever i put it. to clean it just buy some silver dip. beware putting other things in it, but plain silver will come up lovely.

    Thanks.
I'd been wondering if there was something 'old school' (and cheap) that might sort it all out.

The Daily Telegraph letters page had a letter in it this morning which had this recipe: get a bowl big enough to put the silver in, line it with foil, make a very salty solution with boiling water and then put silver in bowl, pour solution over and rinse when clean (minutes only). I am not sure how good this would be for any stones etc you have in your jewellry, but have heard of this as a method before and it sounds a bit less vicious than silver dip which is very powerful. HTH !

I did this with the wifes stuff. It fizzes and instantly everything comes off. No cloth or anything. The foil must work like a battery with the ring and attracts all the tarnish to the foil.
