I would 'second' the use of toothpaste - but I am the 'third' one to recommend it!
just plain old white toothpaste - not the gel or stripey one! rub it well in then rinse under water and dry with soft cloth or tissue.0 -
Does the toothpaste treatment also work for tarnished metal costume jewellery? Some of my costume jewellery develops a strange metallic like smell along with the tarnish. Any ideas to cure this would be very welcome.0

I save an old electric toothbrush head just for cleaning jewellery. Attach it to the toothbrush of course, and use just a tiny bit of toothpaste. The short bristles get into the tiny crevices better than an ordinary toothbrush. Result sparkly, sparkly ringThe beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

I have a really nice silver necklace that my late mum bought me but the chain is tarnished (around where it would sit on my neck - I think probably due to perfume etc.)
Does anyone have any good ideas of how I could clean it?
Thanks in advance.0 -

I always clean my silver earrings like this, works very well. If your worried try it with something of less value first.Slightly bitter0 -
'silvo' is very good, we bought it to clean up the chrome bumper of my '64 bug, which it did fabulously. I've also used it for my silver jewellery, and it cleaned it up fine. I've seen it in £land recently too.0
