I've never tried it, but I'm sure I've read somewhere that you can use tomato ketchup. Can't recall what you were actually supposed to DO with the ketchup, but I suppose it'd be the vinegar doing the cleaning, in a more gentle way than using neat vinegar on your jewellery. I want to try this now......
i use the tinfoil/bicarb for silver, the tomato sauce is brilliant for brass too:)LIVE SIMPLY * GIVE MORE * EXPECT LESS * BE THANKFUL0 -

Not sure on silver but the like of Brown Sauce and also Coke(cola drink) (and maybe Ketchup) will clean metal or dirt and some corrosion (a dirty copper coin will become copper coloured like just minted) but leave the surface feeling very odd. I would say too harsh for silver jewelry!Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
Thanks for all the replies, I knew I would get an answer from you wise people!:money:
I will get some Bicarb tomorrow and give it a go.:D0 -
Maybe not quite so o/s but I have seen tins of 'silvo' in pound land, it's like brasso for silver! Originally bought to clean up my '64 beetles chrome bumper, which it did brilliantly, but I also used it on a load of silver jewellery. Just keep wiping until all the gunk comes off. And, YAY.... New jewellery!!!0

Cif or own brand equivalent and a soft toothbrush. Make sure you rinse well, then buff - will come up a treat.I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:0

Goddards Silver Dip. You basically just chuck the piece of jewelry in and two minutes later it's clean and shiny again. I've had the same jar for over thirty years, cleaned countless items in it and it's still going strong. You can buy it in big supermarkets, ironmongers, Amazon....Val.0

line a bowl with tinfoil, pop in jewellery, cover with bicarb soda, pour over hot water.
apparantly the chemical reaction of silver/foil/bicarb cleans it.
it does work!:)LIVE SIMPLY * GIVE MORE * EXPECT LESS * BE THANKFUL0 -
