Poll between 10-16 Feb 09:
Can you use a voucher on a first date?
The taboos surrounding vouchers have virtually disappeared, as a tribe of credit crunch voucheristas choose where they go depending on the 2fo1 restaurant deals. Yet as it's Valentine’s week, does this apply to a first date?
Imagine Bob asked Sarah out to dinner on a first date, and as he asked, he says he’ll pay. When the bill comes he pulls out a 2for1 voucher...
Which of these is nearest your opinion?
A. I’m a man. It shows Bob’s great with cash. Sarah HE’S A KEEPER! 13% (1061 votes)
B. I’m a man. It’s not an issue, Bobs paying. 20% (1621 votes)
C. I’m a man. Bob’s being tight, Sarah RUN! 12% (953 votes)
D. I’m a woman. It shows Bob’s great with cash. Sarah HE’S A KEEPER! 14% (1079 votes)
E. I’m a woman. It’s not an issue, Bobs paying. 25% (2018 votes)
F. I’m a woman. Bob’s being tight, Sarah RUN! 15% (1207 votes)

For me, this has to be a combination of both of the following:
I’m a man: It shows Bob’s great with cash. Sarah HE’S A KEEPER!
I’m a man: It’s not an issue, Bobs paying
Nothing wrong at all with using the voucher - however if it was me I would discreetly go off to pay the bill and not whip the voucher out at the table0 -
i would go with - I’m a man: It’s not an issue, Bobs paying
or my own choice of I'm a man: i dont know if im gonna get any so hell yeah use the voucher ;p0 -
Sorry but doing this on a first date just signifies he's a tight git.
Alarm bells would ring for me. Speaking as the ex wife of another tight git.Herman - MP for all!0 -

Would also say it depends on the context however - as there could be a good deal on the meal but the guy might have planned a great night and pay the bill for other things?0 -

:rotfl: I dont care if he's planned a trip up the flipping Eiffel Tower.....if I was to see a voucher on a first date, it would also be the last date too.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Agreed
My mate once went out with a guy and he was dropping her off in a taxi - when it got to hers he said to her '£20 should cover you to here'. (or however much it was)
She was gobsmacked!!

That's not being tight. being tight is when he asks her to go Dutch,
she pays her half with cash, then he pulls out the voucher to pay his half.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.
