Just beware of Something Corporation plc, they appear to be tied up with Satellite Direct.
I had an unsolicited phone call which I thought was from Sky as they appeared to know that I had equipment out of warranty.
Imagine my surprise to receive an 'agreement' from Something Corporation plc a company I was not aware of.
And a further surprise to have a reference of Satellite Direct on a payment via my credit card another company I knew nothing about.
I suggest you google Satellite Direct and you will see similar stories.
Thankfully, I cancelled in 7 days ,and have had a refund.
But just beware, and put everything in writing quickly if you need to cancel.
  • Had a second call from Satellite Direct today. Why would anyone insure Sky equipment against faults?

If a fault arises, tell Sky you're cancelling unless they sort it out. If the equipment is less than 12 months old, it's clearly unfit and faulty and they should fix or replace. If it's older than 12 months, you're out of contract and can cancel freely. So unless you're a FreeSat or minimal user, there's an incentive for Sky to fix a.s.a.p.

Typically, computer and electronic equipment has a bathtub-shaped failure profile. High out-of-box failure rate (replacement under guarantee), then tiny percentage for three to five years, then rising steeply. If you pay a warranty for years one to three, you're wasting your money. Save it up, ready to buy the replacement next generation equipment in year 6.
  • This is the address to cancel within cooling off period-but you have to be quick! The other address at Companies House (in West Sussex) is described as being 'not for correspondence' on their letterhead. Just to confuse and delay you, I think.

They are definitely tied up with Satellite Direct, so beware! Just Google 'Satellite Direct' and you will be amazed that they can continue in business after Sky took them to court for 'passing off'...
  • Don't use 'Something'. It is a bad experience that you can avoid. They took over a month to set me up. (That is no phone or broadband at all). The system fails frequently and takes endless calls to the provider and a minimum of 2 days to restore the service. I have had problems ever since January this year (2009) and I am actively seeking an early get out of the contract. My latest problem started last Thursday and I still have no service today Tuesday. Every time the "engineer" comes to upgrade the router it fails - this is the 3rd time. And for a communications company they are poor at communicating. "We will have our tech team phone you back" - translates into "no call will be made to you - have you not learned yet?"

Hi everyone I've been looking at a new tv receiver and came across something.info but like the other posters have found they seem connected to satellite direct of Watchdog fame. I'v decided not to go with them as I cant find any positive posts on the net! they have a new number on the site today, the old one is reported to being temporarily suspended, the number is 01243 200 151 and they answer the phone Something Services! Hope this helps anyone get their money back.

Just found out the sad news that Satellite Direct went into liquidation last week, just a few weeks before the registered office address is changed and two directors resign.

  • I had a phone call today from this company. These people are regular flouters of the TPS. When you ask them to remove your number from their database they ignore you. I have had voice calls from this number (08458621532) for SatLink and Something and an automated call for window and wheelie bin cleaning despite being registered with the TPS for over six years.

If you search Something Corporation and have a rummage through their website, just head to Broadband, then Support... All there is is a telephone number which is the same as the sales line...
  • They took fifty quid out of my account on July 1st, but have not phoned to arrange fitting of landline and broadband, and have ignored my many calls. I've contacted the Office of Fair Trading who have told me to write to them saying they are in breach of the 1982 Supply of Goods Act and that I wish to be released from contract and demand the fifty quid back.

I'll pass on any more news although I foresee a battle ahead. Steer clear of these people.
