Thanks Heinz, problem is, I do not have a modem and my modern laptop (4 months old) does not have an RJ (what ever number it is) socket. Even if it did, would windows 8.1 still be equipped with the software to set it up? Unless there is a work around to this I will have to go the manual route.
...
I use the windows program DTMF Dial, which plays the phone tones through your speakers. You can copy the entries straight from the spreadsheet, paste them into the program, configure the timings for the play back and press "go".
Not quite as clever as using a modem, but it does work...Jumbo

Thanks but I would need a set of instructions for that :huh:{Signature removed by Forum Team - if you are not sure why we have removed your signature please contact the Forum Team}

Thanks but I would need a set of instructions for that :huh:
- Configure DTMF Dial so that the tone duration, pause between tones and length of pauses are as you want using the settings button - you may need to use trial and error. When happy,
- Copy the first spreadsheet code into the DTMF Dial program
- Lift the handset so you get a dialling tone, and hold it close to your PC speakers
- Press the play button on the DTMF Dial program
- Progress through the spreadsheet codes repeating steps 2-4 until complete

If this is the dial program referred to
http://www.dtmfdial.com/
then beware it installs some other (junk) utilities when you install it, even if you click to skip those bits!!
FilesFrog Update Checker
LiveSupport
Optimizer Pro v3.2
will also appear in your start menu programs list. They all have uninstall options in their respective folders, but I used Programs and Features (W7) to remove them. No telling if any bits have been left behind.0 -
Charlie and David,
That's really kind of you to help me out, appreciated, thank you.
I have not got time to do it just now and I think it will be easier for me to find my old table and do the adjustments for Sky talk anytime first. In particular I do not know where I should be routing the numbers in category 4) in Heinz's rules template i.e. 0500, 055, 080x 0843, 0844, 0845, 0871, 0872, 0873, and 00800 etc
Alternatively if Sean is around I am hoping he might be willing to post up his table.
Many thanks guys.
David, would creating a system restore point before installing dtmf dial and then restoring after using the program solve the issue of any traces being left behind after uninstalling?{Signature removed by Forum Team - if you are not sure why we have removed your signature please contact the Forum Team}

I've had variable results when using system restore in the past (from complete success to total failure) and wouldn't rely on it unless as a last resort, and certainly not on a regular basis.
However, I think that any "bits left behind" are just clutter (like having empty folders) and are unlikely to be harmful. You probably already have quite a lot if you've ever uninstalled unwanted programs. PC techies like to clean up this stuff, but most of us just ignore it! There are cleanup programs around, but unless you know what you're doing most are best left alone, especially with the so called intelligent ones.0 -

With 0843/4/0871/2/3 and 055/6 calls, you're stuck with paying Sky whatever they charge (there's no available workaround). Again, Carrier 0.
It looks like the Orchid will only really be of use in barring numbers and routing international calls via 08081703703.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I am currently still with BT for line rental (paid 12 months at a time) and O2 for my broadband but am due to get migrated to Sky in the next couple of months. Once my current Line rental Saver with BT runs out I may think about moving broadband and line rental to Sky if I can screw a good deal out of them.
I'd like to stick with my current router (a modified 2-Wire BT Business Hub) because it supports two hardware VoIP ports which I have phones connected to for use with a couple of Sipgate numbers. However, if I moved to Sky, particularly, Fibre I'd probably lose that capability unless I can find a suitable router that I can use on Sky. I doubt there are many around :-(
Also, for those interested, I just updated my Orchid V4 Dialler Manual Programming Guide to include details of the 0808 access numbers for Call18185 and Call1899 you have been discussing.
The guide can be downloaded from the following web location:-

Enjoy !Retired so trying to save even more!0 -

I actually use a program called Revo Uninstaller which scans for any additional items and allows you to choose whether to remove or keep it, so it was trivial to get rid of them. There is a free version which I used for many years on my previous PC, but I decided to pay for the 64-bit Pro version on the new one - don't think there's too much difference between the free and paid versions for cleaning installs, but I reckoned I'd used it for so long I ought to pay them the small cost...Jumbo

All providers MUST allow free 0500, 080 and 00800 calls. Hence, Carrier 0 will be the one to use.

Thanks again Heinz, I think calls to mobile phones via 08081703703 will be cheaper than Skys' too.
Would you or anyone else have a copy of the original routing table. I was one of the earlier adopters so that is the very first one when the Orchid dialler first became available. I just remembered I lost mine when my last computers hard drive and my backup failed. If someone has I am hoping it will go into open office, I don't have excel. I'm now up and running on the Sky network with the Orchid dialler unplugged from the telephone socket/filter but still plugged into the mains. Hands placed in the praying position, no power cuts or the ring main circuit breaker tripping....please.
Thanks.{Signature removed by Forum Team - if you are not sure why we have removed your signature please contact the Forum Team}
