Thanks, never thought of that, it will also save a minute amount on the leccy bill.

    :)

I was just thinking of keeping the power on in case of blackouts. I'd keep it plugged into the mains as well just in case...

It's funny that Charlie, I found an old splitter and did that today thinking the same thing just after the time of your post. Great minds think alike, I'm sure you'll agree with that :-)

Heinz kindly provided me with an old routing table. I have yet to find a few minutes of quiet time and the inclination to modify it for my needs. Be back if I get a problem.

    Many thanks.

Thanks again Heinz, I think calls to mobile phones via 08081703703 will be cheaper than Skys' too.

    Thanks.

I just switched my dialler code for mobiles over to test the 0808 access numbers and have discovered that 18185 charges 10p/minute to mobiles on WEEKDAYS whereas it's 7p/minute using the direct 18185 CPS method. Call1899 is the same 10p/minute regardless of which access method you use.
Hence I've switched back to the direct 18185 CPS method for now. A bit of a sting in the tail if you don't notice.
Coupled with the connection charge, it's getting to the point where it's cheaper to use a PAYG mobile on the cheapest tariff to call mobiles rather than use my landline.

    Charlie and David,

That's really kind of you to help me out, appreciated, thank you.

I have not got time to do it just now and I think it will be easier for me to find my old table and do the adjustments for Sky talk anytime first. In particular I do not know where I should be routing the numbers in category 4) in Heinz's rules template i.e. 0500, 055, 080x 0843, 0844, 0845, 0871, 0872, 0873, and 00800 etc

Alternatively if Sean is around I am hoping he might be willing to post up his table.

    Many thanks guys.

David, would creating a system restore point before installing dtmf dial and then restoring after using the program solve the issue of any traces being left behind after uninstalling?

I'd be happy to email you a copy of my edited spreadsheet. I'm on (my username)@hotmail.com.
    The file is only 168kb.
I didn't do anything clever - I blocked everything expensive or that I thought we wouldn't use, and decided to send everything else through 18185's 0808 number. The only thing I allow through sky is freephone 080 numbers.
I used 5 #'s as recommended, but sometimes dialling still fails and I have to redial. I haven't yet properly tested if adding a # on the end of the numbers programmed in my phone's memory speeds up the long wait for a connection.

I have now put a 3 PAYG SIM in a spare mobile handset and at 3p/minute for all calls with no connection charge, it's far cheaper than Call18185 or Call1899. I have anytime inclusive calls to landlines on my BT account so it looks like my Orchid Dialler isn't going to do much from now on as I don't really need if for blocking calls and was only using if for routing calls to mobiles!

I've gone from BT and 18185 cps method to

Sky line rental and the 18185 0808 number.

Because I now only get free weekend calls from Sky (rather than the free evening and weekend calls that i got with BT) I changed my standard weekday calls to go via carrier code table entry 5 (18185 cable) at all times of day and the weekend calls still use carrier code 3 (CPS overide)

However, it's not working, it's routing calls via the 18185 cable number at weekends. (edit, now, since attempting to update the orchid time all weekend 020 and 01 calls give an engaged tone)

Am I correct to use CPS overide to route to Sky for weekend standard calls?

Could it be a problem with my dialler having the wrong date?

Also, any further enhancements anyone could suggest?

    Many thanks,

    Will

Change that to Carrier Code 0.

Carrier Code 3 (CPS override) inserts a 1280 prefix - which Sky obviously does not recognise.

Yes, the date and time being correct are essential to ensure the Orchid routes calls appropriately.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Many Thanks Sir!!

Would you recommend the 18185 cable number for mobile calls at all times?
