    To manually reset the clock in a V4, V4Plus or Ranger 400, lift the handset (press the handset button on a Ranger DECT handset) and 'dial' the following:

    ** # 0 0 0 0 * hh mm DOW dd mm yy *2

    N.B. The DOW (Day Of Week) entry is a single digit:
    Monday = 1
    Tuesday = 2
    Wednesday = 3
    Thursday = 4
    Friday = 5
    Saturday = 6
    Sunday = 7
    So, for example, 13:30 on Sunday 27 March 2011 would be entered as:

    ** # 0 0 0 0 * 1 3 3 0 7 2 7 0 3 1 1 *2 (then hang up).

    Just realised I hadn't altered the dialler. Followed these instructions, just got to hope it worked.

    They've been working for me twice a year for the past 5 years so I doubt you'll have problems.
    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Modems Known to work (a list in progress - let me know if you have success with something not here)...

    Hi. Just to let you know, I managed to get my Orchid V4 dialler programmed by using an external USB modem, the model being a:

    USB Communicator V.92 faxmodem, manufactured by Jaton Corporation.

    It even installed the drivers from Windows XP without having to use the installation disc. It is powered from the USB port alone.

    I had never been able to get the internal soft modem in my Toshiba Portege laptop to work - whatever I tried, it said the COM port was already in use, whatever I changed the value to in the modem settings and in the spreadsheet.

    Hi,

    only just found out about this spreadsheet, I've been maintaining my V4+ manually until now.

    The problem I have is that Excel appears to load the spreadsheet in Design(?) mode. When I try to click on any of the buttons, i.e. Dial Test Number, the name box window shows "Group 41" and the Dial Test Number icon is surrounded by a box allowing me to resize the icon (I presume).

    How do you turn off Design Mode (if indeed that is what it is)?

    BTW, I'm using Excel 2002 running under XP, but I've also tried opening the spreadsheet in Excel 2002 under W7 64bit with the same result.

    That's the error I always get, although in my case it has been with a couple of different external USB modems (Sitecom and Zoom). I use Windows XP and have tried different PCs running Excel 2000 and 2007.

    Needless to say, as far as I know there have not been other applications using the modem at the same time, and there is nothing wrong with the connection as such since it IS possible to send simple "AT" commands to the modem and get a response.

    Does anyone know what the actual cause of the COM-port-in-use error is and, more importantly, how to get around it?

    Thanks in advance for any advice that anyone can give.

    Thanks to a deal VM put me on -and also now that they are now offering free calls (250min pm anyway) to 0870/0845 numbers, I now have very little use for my Orchid v4; only for calls to mobiles.

    I don't have a saved routing table and I don't have a modem. All I want to do is to now have 0845/0870 calls routed via VM instead of 18185.

    I have the manual for the product but am not sure how, or even if, it can be done.

    Any assistance appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Kevin Lawry's spreadsheet does not have to be used in conjunction with a modem - it can simply be used to generate the sequences needed to key in (using a DTMF telephone keypad) your particular requirements.

    It sounds like yours will be very simple (although you may find a few things you need to input which you haven't thought of yet - e.g. using 18185's freephone gateway number for any 01/02/03/07 calls which are not inclusive in your new deal) so I'd suggest you start by clearing all Routing Codes (**#0000*1111*6) and Carrier Codes (**#0000*2222*6) and then you can build the bare bones of a program using the spreadsheet before using the manual method to enter them into your V4.
