I can think of one reason, and one that I never thought of catching before now. a string with a # on each end is a date literal - that is it is assumed to be an encoded date object. The line you highlighted compares it with an empty string - the "". Since a string is not a date object there is a type mismatch.

However that is sort of around the houses - cell M32 should not have just
    #28#
in it, it should have something like the following entry (my copy may be a slightly different version to the one you have so the actual line may be different

    *###999#2000#28#

so it sounds as if something on that line has been accidentally altered

    28 999999 Emergency Calls E 0 0 0*###999#2000#28#

is what I currently have - check that all of the boxes have a value in them, if you have been altering the table you may have deleted cells rather than cell contents and confused things

Posts crossed - glad things are sorted

Doubly glad because I can not replicate the problem - it looks like I was talking out of my rear with my first thoughts :-)

First let me say this is a great tool for updating the Orchid..I have not updated it since last year, and did not even know they had pulled the support for it.

Anyway, I tried the spreadsheet through my internal (laptop) modem and to my amazment it seemed to connect fine, and I could send signals to the Orchid. I did however notice that the spreadsheet would fail to send certain lines (it would just print the line to dial on the screen, but not connect and attempt to send, before moving on to the next line).. It seems that the majority of lines it will not send are the ones I amend, however it will send some of the amended lines. It is strange, the line looks correct, however the modem will not even attempt to send any signals. I ended up manually dialing everything on the phone, using the spreadsheet to know what to dial, and this seems to have worked fine..

I would be happy to try to debug this, however I would need somebody to direct me as to what is needed to determine what is happening.. Either logging by the macro, or on the modem (or both).

send me a copy of the spreadsheet as you have modified it and let me know which lines fail to dial and I will take a look - I'll PM you an e-mail address you can send it to - let me know what OS you are using and what machine you have (the modem type & name if you know them as well - don't waste too much time looking though)

Hi, has anyone bought one of Orchid's new Billsaver diallers yet or know anything more about them?

I've had two Orchid V4s for several years. They are working very well with Kevin's programmer and Heinz's plan. Even easier to use than with CWClient.

I have an elderly relative who keeps forgetting to dial 18185 and then curses the call cost. I wondered if Orchid's Billsaver could be manually programmed in the same or similar way to the V4?

    Thanks for your help.

    Johnnie.

I agree - but the drawback of course is you can't see what you've done with the programming.

With regard to the Bill Saver dialler, I noted the "Let us have your routing requirements at time of placing the order and we will program the Dialler for you" line on the webpage but, as I couldn't see any reference to how the end-user could alter that initial programming, I asked Toby at Orchid whether he would let me have details (with a possible view to me producing a variation on the Heinz program for it). Unfortunately, he hasn't got back to me.

I too was hoping the Bill Saver dialler would be suitable for the sort of use you are planning (I experimented with a couple of Orchid V2 units for a very elderly relative a couple of years ago but found them to be terribly unreliable - they kept inserting the prefix I'd entered twice, resulting in almost every call failing and incurring a charge).

Did I miss it? I can't see any mention of price on that webpage either.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Hi Heinz,

Thanks for your quick reply. I asked exactly the same questions to Orchid Sales and received the reply:

Are you still interested in purchasing a Dialler? If so we can supply you with a pre programmed BillSaver Dialler at £14.99 + £4 P&P.

I don't want to recommend it until I know how I can keep it maintained for him in the future (time, routing updates etc.) If it uses a similar manual programming routine to the V4 and could be programmed with a similar DTMF tool as Kevin's spreadsheet, I would definitely buy one for him. I thought I'd ask here in case anyone had one as I don't want to be a guinea pig!

    Best regards,

    Johnnie

I'll try again to find out if and how end-user programming can be achieved and report back here if I'm successful.

  • If it can be programmed similarly, and Orchid will make the rules available, I am willing to try re-making my spreadsheet to suit.
  • I have had the Orchard dialler for a couple of years and has had been working fine with the occasional update required. I have recently swapped to Kevin Lawry spreadsheet. (Many thanks to Kevin a great program :T) after CWclient was withdrawn.

I can't work out how to set the routing and carrier tables for certain access numbers. It says to entry the country code. I assume this means 004477etc. I want to be able to dial a standard mobile number (e.g 077etc) or use them from the handsets phone book.

I have tried various options of adding # (1 sec delay) and entering 004477etc in the routing table. I have tryied changing the numbers to phonecheap with the same result.

If I change all the 2 to 1 or 3 it works fine. So does manual entering all the number of the phone. E.g 121 08717597030, then waiting for the prompt and entering my mobile number.

    Below is my current configuration.

Also is there a way to delete a line in the routing table, other than over-typing it with something else.
