Cost is not the only thing, it is a simple case of getting someone to countersign the Irish passport application when you do not really know the 'professionals' that need to sign it and living in a foreign city. This coupled with the fact that passport photo booths in Britain are not compliant with Irish passport photo requirements makes it a hassle to try and get a passport.
You can go to a professional photographer and get it done. That's what I have to do in Poland, we do not have 'photo booths' in this country. It isn't a hassle for me, so why is it for you?
As for countersigning - surely you can find someone that can do it?From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -

so, one less security check for Osama and pals to worry about?
and what id their site goes down? if you couldnt check in / cancel, would they still let you on, or agree a refund..?
You're relying on a check in desk over the security control to stop them?
People have been checking in on-line for years, i've done it with ryanair, BA, aerlingus and jet2 in the last 5 years.0 -
RyanAir to scrap check in desks..?
I suppose that the next logical step would be to scrap boarding as well. It's clear to me that it's the passengers which cause Ryanair so much difficulty. They'd be able to run a fantastic airline if it weren't for troublesome customers wanting things.0 -

I am an Irish passport holder living in London, when I renew my passport I go to the passport office in Knightsbridge
I have never had any issues with my photos (all taken in photo booths) and I have held an irish passport for 26 years0 -

It would only be discrimination if their website wasn't set up to be accessible by the disabled - but I'm more than certain that it is. The fact that Ryanair view people who don't use internet check-in as an unneccessary expense is a good thing for those of us who are capable of using the internet.
unless they change their conditions, it will be discriminating against non-EU citizens
I'm sure Ryanair will offer some sort of non-internet check in - I'm not so sure about that
Also it won't be the non-EU customers they are turning away, but the EU customers who travel with them0 -

Just because it is not a hassle for you does not mean it is not a hassle for others. I am a Chartered Engineer and I can countersign British passports and I know loads of other Chartered Engineers but the Irish passport service will not accept Chartered Engineers as professionals
I went to the police but they refused as they did not know me. I went to my registered Doctor (I rarely go and when I do I see a Locum), she refused as she did not know me. I bank on the internet and have no bank manager. I don't go to Mass. I eventually spoke to my sons head teacher in school and she agreed to sign. My application was returned last week as the photo is not the correct size requirement (chin to crown of the head), the photo was done in a photo booth. I will end up using the services of epassportphoto as that website will size the photos to each countries requirements.
I would say that is a lot of hassle for someone who does not even need a passport for entry in the CTA!0 -
not that its any consolation, but the same or similar regulations apply for passport photos for a UK passport now - there is very little tolerance - a matter of a few millimeters - difficult, but not impossible to do in a photobooth0
