Hi Alyssa
I have a classical allergy to wheat, and since excluding it IBS has improved considerably - as I discoevered the other week when I made a mistake and ate stuff without checking the packets and the IBS returned.
I'm just doing my own diet plan, not following any bought plan with weekly meetings etc. But I have an alarmingly large collection of diet and health books which I read to help keep focussed.
as well as no wheat, I try to bear in mind GI ideas as feel so much better for it. I was prediabetic a few years ago, but since changing diet and losing 5 stones (so far !) my glucose levels have improved.
hope this is useful

Katyaalyssa_mae wrote:Hi all
what an inspiration this thread is to everyone. I'm thinking of joining tesco's ediets. can anyone recommend. I need also to try and cut out wheat and dairy as I have ultrasive colitus and Ibs. so I thought the tesco's e diets might be the best place to start as I don't have a clue about substituting and this would do it all for me. I've tried sw last year. not enough treats. Rosemary connaly, ww till a couple of weeks ago. I have only about a stone to lose and it's mainly for my health that I want to lose it. so if anyone with the same health problems has any advice I would love to hear from you.
with thanks.0 -

I have just taken out a book from the library called IBS for dummies and it's brilliant. I have had UC & Ibs for over 15 years and never changed my diet. This book has been a real eye opener for me. But just the thought of changing to a wheat free and perhaps dairy free diet just makes my mind boggle!
Well done for your weight loss and thanks for your advice.HOW MUCH ?0 -
Hi
Still a fairly new poster, although I have been a fan of the site for a while!
Plucking up the courage to post here - quite a big step!
I'm not actually sure what I weigh at the moment - have no scales at uni, but I know I would like to be a lot less, for all sorts of reason, mainly self confidence.
I don't have the funds, or the access, to any type of formal class, but I have just had a look at the fitday website that mimmiespender mentioned and found it brilliant!
At uni, I'm generally surrounded by the most amazingly slim fashionable girls, and i dont want to spend all of my student days feeling like the biggest girl here! I'm hoping to lose about 3 stone, but have followed the advice here and set myself a smaller target to begin with. Its hard at uni, as junk food and alcohol is everywhere, and although I eat incredibly healthily I tend to binge on chocolate and spoil all my healthy efforts. Have started going to a local exercise class though which is something I havent done for years.
Thats enough for now sorry for the mini autobiography! Just dont really have a slimming buddy at uni, and my boyfriend can eat like a horse and not gain an ounce, so thought this might be a good place to start.
Good luck to everyone

Welcome Katia!
possibly rather confusingly I've got the same name, but spelt differently, I'm Katya.
keeping some sort of feed diary might help find out why you have chocolate moments.
I certainly find that having low blood sugar leads to chocolate cravings, and it's very hard to overcome them once they've got hold. Best to avoid it by having frequent healthy snacks throughout the day so blood sugar doesn't dip.
If you can keep healthy snacks in your bag so you've got something to munch on when surrounded by junk food.

i noticed ur name when i was reading the posts!! (might as well be honest - i'm actually called katie
, but katia just that little bit more interesting for a screen name - plus its my bf nickname for me ) Anyway hopefully there wont be any mixups!
well hopefully that new website will help me keep track of what im eating, i think its a willpower thing more than anything. If i don't have chocolate in, I don't go and buy some, its just when its there I can't resist, bit obvious how to solve that problem isn't it  !!
One of my friends at uni loves her fruit and takes packed lunches in every day, so I've followed suit, we both find it nicer not being the only one eating out of a lunchbox when everyone else has subways and mcdonalds! Lidl is coming handy for the mixed fruit and nuts :T but if anyone has any other fairly cheap ideas for handy snacks id be grateful
I don't yet hav weighing scales at uni, so I won't be able to chart my weight loss regularly, which is probably goin to be a motivation issue, better find some cheap ones sharpish! And then I'll be sure to keep you all posted. Thanks for the advice

Hello to all the new posters, well done to everyone who has lost....I have put a lb ON!!!
I have had 2 bad weeks in the last 4 and I am still the same as I was 4 weeks ago which is worrying....I blame the peanuts on Saturday
Anyway I am off on holiday for 3 weeks from Friday so I better go and pack my new (smaller )clothes:j (it's not all bad news) or my DH will be leaving me behind on Friday.
Good luck to all, keep losing and keep posting and I will try to eat healthily in New Zealand;)0 -
Hiya,
I've always meant to post on this board but never quite got round to it. I started my new thingy (plan, programme, diet...they all sound so formal and rigid...that's why I call it thingy) at the beginning of the month after my exams. I've lost 7lbs so far. Just though eating less and healthy stuff. I also go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week and walk to uni evey day (40 mins, 4km twice a day except when it's raining or my bag is heavy). I can feel my body changing already which I'm glad about!!
Good luck everyone

Well done for all the great losses people!
I went to my first class yesterday (rejoined rosemary conley) and enjoyed the exercise alot - it's not too hard but the sweat and heart rate proves you're working.
Did not enjoy the scales. First weigh in after a long break was tough. My first goal is going to be my 'club 10' (although that's technically a SW goal!). Even that is a pretty long way to go.
Feeling quite nervous about next week's weigh in already. I really hope that a get a good start to put me on the right track.
Good luck to all of you!0 -
Nearlyrich,
Have a fab holiday in NZ, I'm dead jealous because I have to wait another 9 months yet! You can't go half way around the world and stick rigidly to your healthy eating, enjoy your holiday without thinking too much about it. I hope you will let us all know how wonderful a place it is when you get back.
Fran, welcome and well done on your weight loss so far, keep it going, stay focused and you'll be annoying your OH by pestering for a new wardrobe.
My trousers have started falling down now so I've got a huge charity bag by the door and a credit card in pocket!!!!I haven't got one!0
