  • Hi does anyone know if this account locks you in for a certain period? I want to join for 3 months and then switch to A+L and get their £100 bonus. I can't go straight to them cause I already have a (rubbish) Abbey account.

    Hi.

Does anyone know if per month means calender month? My wages usually go in on the 25th of the month but occasionally due to bank holidays or weekends it can be a day or 2 late.

    Thanks in advance.

    Yes, it's per calendar month.

You can close the account whenever you like. (I wouldn't, though, as it's a very good account!)

OK have just opened individual Halifax Reward Accounts online for me and my OH and both were opened instantly giving sort codes and account numbers. Have transferred £100 into each one to activate the account- so debit cards get sent out. When I recieve online passwords etc I will transfer a further £900 into each and then a few days later move that money back out.

Also I tried to open a joint account but that one said I would have to wait 14 days for a decision- I think because I had just opened the other accounts the same day.
Might still open First Direct Accounts as well- as I've been with A+L for a while so no longer get decent interest rate. We would get the £100 for joining and then could move back to A+L at a later date to get the 6.5% interest rate again!
Not sure whether its necessary to wait a while with these Halifax applications still recent to on credit file.

There's no rhyme or reason to the way they're permitting or declining these accounts. Husband & I have joint High Interest Current Account with them. We each applied for 3 sole Reward Current Accounts. My 3 were accepted, but only 2 of husband's were. Letter from Halifax says his credit score wasn't high enough, which is unlikely. Customer Relations have looked into it and said it's because with the 2 new Reward Accounts and the existing HICA that was his full quota, but that doesn't explain them allowing my 3. Basically, I think it depends on how the computer's feeling when the applications are being processed.

For all people who have had the £100 disappearing from their account:

Just had a call from the manager at my local branch who has been looking into this for me; apparently the first payment into the account has to be over the counter in a branch, and any payment by BACS / FP is bounced into a holding account.
  • That's strange- On the final page of the account opening page it gives you various options of crediting £100: i.e. transfer from existing halifax account/from third party account/cheque in the post/deposit cash or cheque over the counter.

Didn't say anywhere that the first credit MUST be over the counter.... Did your £100 re-appear in the account itself after a few days or did you go into a branch to deposit money before it happened?

  • Hah, this this is getting more bizarre and without reason every day. As previously posted, I have 2 joint BoS Reward Accounts, and recently applied for 2 Halifax Rewards at the same time, one of which was accepted, the other declined.

After some of the discussion on here, I decided to try my arm, and log in through the BoS Online banking instead of my ususal Halifax log-in(same e-banking platform) and proceeded to apply for a BoS Rewards account, fully expecting to be declined.

AMAZINGLY, I was accepted, so in theory it may the case that you can hold up to SIX accounts individually(and a couple could hold TWELVE in total???!!!), as I now have:

    3 BoS Reward Accounts(2xjoint, 1x single)
    1 Halifax Rewards A/C(1xsingle)

I'm now swithering whether to go back to Halifax again and try for a second account again?Any suggestions?Anyone managed to get near to the twelve? That would be £720 a year in bonus'.....there has to be a catch somewhere, can HBoS really have been THIS silly? Let's hope so!!!!!

I can't understand why he told you that, because I transferred £100 into each of my new Reward accounts from existing HICA online, and the transfers went through straight away.

Just applied online for a reward account, one each for me and other half, we already have a high interest joint account. It accepted him and declined me, i then applied again said i earnt 1000 a month and would use their switching service and it accepted me. Transferred a £100 online. The declined account is showing and has a roll number, not sure why it shows on my list of accounts. It has both given us £250 overdrafts too, i hope i don't use it, mind you the fees are stupid.

HUH! I've applied online and I had the 'we'll contact you in 14 days message'. Annoying because I have a quite a few products with Halifax and have never had trouble opening accounts before. Wonder if its because I've just made a few bob out of them with my slow stoozing! (halifax one!!) They're on to me!;)

Ha ha!! I got a letter today saying I'd been accepted! :T Have logged on and added the account and transfered in £100.

I'm going to try for a 2nd one tonight. I have the HICA.. not sure if i should go for a 2nd then get the HICA transfered to a reward or just try for 3 rewards?
