Halifax reward account online now, and the old accounts....

  • I opened 3 of these Halifax Reward Bank Accounts and all 3 applications have been accepted.. transferred £100 into each one from Halifax Websaver and all three are now activated as I've received the debit cards through the post.

Going to transfer £1000 from Halifax Websaver each month to the first Halifax Reward Bank Account, keep it in for one day, then transfer to the second Halifax Reward Bank Account, keep it in for one day then transfer to the third Halifax Reward Bank Account, keep it in for one day then back to Halifax Websaver.

    Hopefully this will work.

Those of you that have multiple Halifax accounts, are there any implications of the same £1000 cycling through all of them? Does it appear "dodgy"?! e.g what would tax man make of it (although the initial £1000 is from salary but transferred from my main account)

I don't think the taxman would make anything of it to be honest, it just shows up as a "Transfer" on a Halifax statement, i.e. that's just money moving between Halifax accounts, it's not like it's loads and loads of income coming in. So I think no worries there, the only net gain will be £5 p/m on each account (tax free/already paid by the lovely Halifax fatcats :rotfl:).
  • We applied for a Halifax reward account online yesterday evening as a joint application.
My wife as the main applicant and me as the second applicant she was accepted straight away but for myself it came up with a message saying I need to take some ID down to the branch to get myself onto the account anyway it gave the account number and sort code. So today I rang up to query this as to why they only asked to see ID for myself and not my wife when speaking to the online helpdesk they told me that we had applied for a cashcard account rather than the reward account. I explained to them that we clearly followed the steps on thier website when applying for the reward account. They couldnt explain why this had happened and they told us to go to a branch and sort this out. Only thing I can think of is when going thru the online application I ticked no for the an overdraft. Could this have caused a glith on the computer and selected us for a cashcard account rather than a reward account?

Was wondering has this happened to anyone else???
  • I selected no overdraft too, reward account has been opened without needing to go into branch

Quick question for those who have applied for multiple accounts and who were already Halifax or BoS (High Interest) current account customers...

Did you apply as an existing customer, or say that you weren't already a customer?

For those of you new to Halifax, did you say that you were an existing customer on the applications for accounts 2 to 3(6)?

Just trying to ensure I maximise my chances of acceptance. ;)

I opened one with Halifax online, stating I was an existing customer.

I opened one for Mrs C with Halifax online, stating she was an existing customer (we have a High Interest Joint Account).

I opened another for myself on the Bank of Scotland website, stating I was an existing customer, although I have no actual Bank of Scotland products.

I'm a bit coy about applying for any more! :o

I've done two so far, and in both cases I did it as an existing customer. Both went through and were accepted straight away. I have a HICA at the moment.

I think your chances of acceptance are probably 100% or more YorkshireBoy. If they're happy to give you a £10k overdraft, I really can't see them being bothered about a few (or six) extra current accounts. How much do you put through your HICA each year? £10,000? £100,000? More? They should be wanting as much of your business as they can get!

Well over £300K in the last year, and more than £1/2m since I opened it 2 years ago...but not all of it was mine. Most of it was, er, on loan. :o:D

Time for an application blitz as an existing customer then. :)

Halifax don't think so. They want 14 days to think about my first (and so far only) application. :o

So much for my application "blitz"! Think I'll hold fire with the others...or should I just pile in and make them anyway?

(Doesn't make any sense really. I'm shifting some funds around at the moment and my HICA has a circa £20K balance today).

You've probably got their fraud department looking into you ... it must look like moneylaundering!

It's not tax free. They will have deducted the basic 20% at source, but higher rate customers still have to pay the rest.
