Oh, dear, Reverbe - it sounds calamitous where you are! It sounds as if the thing is too small, and the paperclip things don't sound substantial enough. It may be better to get a more traditional one. If you can knit, doing an i-cord will be easier and quicker. There are tutorials for that online. You need a pair of double-pointed needles. Cast on, say, four stitches, knit the four, then push them to the other end of the needle and, without turning, knit them again. Carry on like that and you will end up with something very similar to what you'd get from French knitting and you can use it the same way for making things. I wish I could be there to show you! Good luck.

Evening all
Busy day today, DS2 is 12 today.
We had my parents round this morning, we went out for lunch (I had mussels and chips -yum) and inlaws came round this afternoon (I went for a long bath just before they arrived so unfortunately didn't see them-which was nice:D )
DS now has a PSP (bought by him with copious amounts of birthday money), guitar hero for the wii (bought by all inlaws clubbing together) and a Worcester Warriors hat! C'mon you Warriors!
We've just had pizza and birthday cake for tea.
My mum brought over my old Sasha doll for Dd to play with. She's thrilled to bits with it. Goodness I must have looked after it well, it is in really good condition with nearly all the original clothes. It's a blonde gingham, I had her for my 7th b'day so she's 36;) Did anyone else have one, they're quite collectible now apparently.
Reverbe, we watched The Girl From Paris last night which you mentioned a few weeks ago. I really enjoyed it despite the rather abrupt ending. I'm really loving Lovefilm -thanks again.0 -
Reverbe - I would love to be able to help but don't know what I'm talking about, I'm afraid. I do french knit - it's the only kind I know how to do - but I don't really know what can go wrong or what the signs are. But thankyou for prodding me in the direction of digging mine out.:)
I have two knitting nancys, both inherited from my nanna and both homemade. One is an old wooden cotton reel with eight nails in it and the other is an embroidery hoop with loads of nails, Nanna Lil taught me to use them when I was a girl because she was slightly disappointed that I was so rubbish at knitting. I still think it's because I'm left handed and she was right-handed, she always used to say I was just plain cacky-handed :rotfl: The little one I've only ever made variations on mats with. I make scarves with the big one but my mum said when she was a girl my nanna would use it to make socks or more accurately put one of the kids to work making socks with it, using old unpicked clothes! I love hearing stories like that, when I was a kid I tended to think that the fifties were just like the eighties but without telly :rotfl:I listened with horror and disbelief when my Mum and Nanna Lil told me stories about The Day Sugar Rationing Ended, The Day They Got a Telly and The Day Grandda Got Caught Poaching :rotfl:
There's not an awful lot I inherited from her or Grandda Ted (I was only nine or ten when they passed away), they didn't have a lot, I have the nancys, her gingerbread cutters, and her scrabble set. But since I found my inner OS'er my mum also reckons I inherited her nesting instinct, (which is hilarous given that I have no maternal streak in me whatsoever) but I have to admit it makes me a little bit proud every time she tells me so. Especially since my mum had her stroke, she can't really speak and has trouble communicating this kind of thought to us, so when she makes so much effort to tell me it means so much to me.
Just goes to show, it doesn't matter what you have, it's who you are. Anyway, I think I must have drank too much of the 'leftover' wine from braising the lamb for dinnerI'm off to hunt out my knitting nancies and make another scarf :rotfl: Reverbe, I truely hope you get sorted out, thankyou for tripping my memory, why don't you post a piccy up and we can all take a look?

Evening peeps
i`ve just managed to read the thread as i`m very late on here today.
The w*rk pc wouldn`t let me online today for some reason, i`ve just managed to sit down for half an hour and now i have to get up again as i have soup simmering in the kitchen and it looks like a bomb site. I must get it sorted as i`m wo*king early in the morning again and i`m a little bit behind with all my jobs
Happy Birthday JackieO :bdaycake: i hope that you have had a wonderful day with your family, i loved reading your post.
Tea tonight was a lovely spag bol which has now settled and warmed me up a bit, very cold here tonight with a temperature of minus 7 outside forecast and the threat of more snow to come according to the weatherman so i shall have to get up extra early just in case it`s settled.

(((Penny Pincher)))
I hope you are feeling a bit better now. Once you have the new loo plumbed in things should be easier for you.
Woke up feeling a bit odd with throat closing up and feeling snuffly. Spent some time dozing on and off then came downstairs to make shepherds pie for tea. DD(23) helped with peeling veg etc.
Sorted washing into dark and light heaps and loaded dark wash in machine. Came back an hour later and could not find the white wash! Decided I was completely losing my marbles and nearly went back to bed in tears, when I finally found where someone had "helpfully" put the white wash load!!!!
Washing machine is now whirring away so spending some time on here with a hot drink.

So pleased about Tristan and hope minor miracles keep happening for him.
Hugs to everybody and see you later."This site is addictive!"

You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed the film as much as I did.I loved the old man and how he cheated to get her to talk to him and his mate's dog was quite amusing also.:rotfl: I found it a very sweet movie. I am always nervous when I recommend films as I do have a rather eclectic taste. My fave film of all time is one most ppl haven't heard of for example. But very pleased you liked "The Girl From Paris " too. Did you want some of his stew? I did .. LOLWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

DH and I walked the 1 mile into the middle of our little town. As someone else said, it was hard going! It felt as though we'd done more than one mile each way. The Co-op was the only shop with any milk, and therefore it was the only shop with a massive long queue. DH braved it though. Meanwhile, I was checking out the 2nd hand book stall that they always have there in aid of the British Heart Foundation, so I got a D ick Francis book for 50p.

Which one did you get Vicky? !!!!!! Francis is one of my favourite fiction authors:D I have all his books and wouldn't part with any of them. I even have a couple of autographed books:D:D DH queued for ages one time;)
Very best wishes for your mum. CM xxYou never get a second chance to make a first impression.0
