oooh carpet picnic, we love those in our house, DD gets the picnic rug out, I make sarnies and salady bits and we eat them out of packed lunch boxes, a must for DD, who's getting ready for "big girl school" in September and can't wait to have a Fifi lunchbox, lol
I've just chuckled at this as my DD who also starts in Sept cannot wait for her Fifi lunchbox!!! Have a feeling though come Sept it will be something else but she wants it now!! :rotfl: I haven't actually seen any, have you?

Yeah I live nr Reading and its very expensive although prices are falling slowly.
I work from home so I can only swap books with myself. I do use the local library to get books out. Might pop in there over the weekend and get a couple more. I just never finish them. Got any recommendations? I love autobiographies too. Just finished all 3 of Sharon Osbourne and they were amazing.
Are you planning on anymore kids? Or is one enough? My friends are all trying for number.3!! Not me, I ahevnt got the money or the patience for anymore! haha
I just like reading anything that is easy to read as I only have time to read at night before bed so it can't be anything too taxing :rotfl: Cecila Ahern, Sophie Kinsella, Fiona Walker... anything really.
What do u do working from home?
Just the 1 kiddie for me. Long story but we are not in a position to have no 2A friend of mine has 3, a girl who is 4 in Sept, a boy who was 2 end of Jan and a 2wk old girl....madness!!! lol
Will have a think on freebie/cheap things for u all to do, although u can't beat all of u going for a walk in wellies walking through puddles!! We've done that the last 2 Sunday's DD loves it.
Enjoy your beans on toast am just off to do mine but am drooling over the bacon.....!!"Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little." Edmund Burke

Hi Sugarpants,
for the phone/broadband my OH says it was very easy. He just told AOL what he wanted to pay less and would go elsewhere (which I hoped he wouldnt as I LOVE my aol address!!), they said fine, and gave him £6.99 for the first 6 months, and is now £14.99 with free uk anytime calls. When we went to the additional country calls, they even dropped the broadband to £12.99 per month with countries being £7 so we pay £19.99 for broadband and nearly all our calls (except mobile and 084*)
AOL sent my husband a form to fill in and they sorted the rest out with BT.We could even pay AOL the £11.50 for the line rental, but are happy to still pay that to BT through direct debit. (as BT would charge us £4.50 a quater (sp?), if we didnt do a direct debit to them or AOL monthly).
We used to average about £110 a phone bill with broadband about £75 on top. Its now £94.50 a quater which is nearly half and we can talk forever!!!
I love the BT guys when they ring now with their 'we can reduce your phonebills patter', because they cant:rotfl:
Good luck with changing yours. Im sure that your provided can also do you a good deal.
With the children, do you have a family centre near by? - ours has a toy library where you can join for virtually nothing and they have fantastic, new clean toys that you can borrow. One in the next village is even running family activities on Saturdays and throughout the holidays.
For short breaks we room camp in Travelodges - using the £9 per night sale deals. We (5 of us) book a room for 2 nights and have a great time. We take our own breakfasts as theirs are expensive for what they are, and have even taken things with us to make sandwiches whilst we are out and about. Its like camping without worrying about the weather, loos, hot water and a TV!!
I totally agree with all the other posters - you dont need loads of possessions to have a great childhood - the park, some sunshine or snow! and knowing that you are loved are far more important.
My favourite meal growing up was 'egg in a cup' - at the end of the month when the money was tighter, my mum boiled each of us an egg, which we mashed with butter and pepper in a mug. We ate it with a spoon and heaps of hot buttered toast. Its still my perfect comfort food and takes me right back to being 8!!0 -
Oooh - forgot to say - we didnt have family holidays, but we did go on day trips all over the place with a local coach company.
If you go into your local newspaper office, they will probably have loads of leaflets for trips all over the country and in europe. They even do short breaks these days. My OH and I did one in Paris when we first got together for about £60 each for 4 nights. We had an amazing time. The first part of our honeymoon was £120 each for a week. The accomodation was very basic, but the location and company (!) were perfect!!!0 -
