Just had a thought i have saved lots of teco clubcard pts so off to see if I can use it against weekend away or simular. 2 more hours and we will be eating our beans ..lol

Tesco points are great. We have used them for camping holidays, days out such as legoland and drayton manor. Great cheapish days out for the kids.

If you really need/want some extra cash they go on ebay for about twice the value. Im thinking of putting some of mine up.

Well done on your debt busting you are doing so well :T .

You are doing so well Sugarpants! Have you thought of mystery shopping? I do it and it brings in a bit each month. Quite good as I can get to treat the family (took the children on a midweek trip to Pizzahut - they couldn't believe their luck!) and earn a bit too.

TBH Sugarpants, I would try negotiating with your land lord first. If he or she has a mortgage, the paymenys are likely to have come down a lot recently, maybe they are in the money, and wouldnt want to lose a good tenant? Worst thing they can say is "no!"

quote=Barneysmom;18520073]HI Sugarpants! You've come to the right place, as there are loads of people here who will give you advice on how to save money.
Personally I think your rent is high, but I'm not sure how much the rental market is these days.
I would move to somewhere a bit cheaper if I could, if I were in your shoes I mean. And save what you would have been paying in a completely different account, call it your 'looking to buy' account or something. Even if you rent somewhere £50 a month cheaper, you'll soon see that account grow.

Have a peep at the Moneysaving Old Style board and get some fantastic tips on how to save ongrocery shopping. I have learnt so much from the lovely people on there, and saved money too.
I saw a lady in Asda today buying cake mixes and couldn't understand why when it's so much cheaper and nicer to make your own.

    Good luck hun xxx[/quote]

    Hey Sugarpants!

You've made me want Baked Beans on toast for tea tonight.... with cheese! Yum... although the bacon sounds nice too, but I dont' have any.

Is your eldest at school? Assume so as you've only mentioned the youngest being at home during the day, cos the sun holidays are FAB!!! But the school hols ones are hard to get, but any other time you normally get a cheap, ish hol. We pay under £100 for 4 nights away.

If I knew of a way you could do it, I'd happily offer my house for the week we're away, we live close to the New Forest, but not sure how it could be done!

Oh and well done on all you've done so far.... I agree a day off the debt thinking is the way to go, I try not to worry about it, it's done I'm doing what I can to clear it, so I don't want to spend my days worrying about and being stressed. I have a 3 yr old DD, I want to enjoy her rather than being miserable. It's not easy to do it tho.... but it can be done.

What do u enjoy doing? Reading? Watching films?

  • Oure rent is very cheap for where we live and we live in 3 bed house with garage. We thought with our new contract starting this month he wouldve raised the rent but he didnt. Phew.
good idea though for anyone else reading this thread.

Poole is nice, my Nan lives there. I live off jct 2 on the M27, close to the new forest but close to Southampton too.

At work we do a book swap which helps as I love reading, but that wouldn't work if you're not out to work, hmmmm there was a mention recently of an online book swap thing. I love chick lit, easy to read.

Am trying to think of things u can do that u enjoy but doesn't cost money.

Loved the suggestion of a carpet picnic with the kiddies! Sounds great fun.

A friend of mine lives in Reading so I know how expensive it is up your way, lovely place to live though, some nice areas around.

Back soon just off to put DD to bed xx

  • Hi again SP, You're welcome and glad you're feeling chirpier :) You'll be fine, particuarly now you've found the forum, these people are AMAZING! Restore your faith in humanity :j . One last thing, I think by the time you've got rid of the debt the housing market will have had a chance to rebalance, you'll be more likely to get a mortgage and more likely to find a more reasonably priced house. I'm a mortgagee myself but tbh, I think you're best off waiting right now, even if it feels enforced, it wouldn't surpirse me if in a few years when you're debt-free and looking to get that nest, you'll be thinking well thank goodness we didn't do it in 2009 (no disrespect to anyone who's recently bought -including my sis and my DH'S best friend - just findng the silver lining for this particualr member's situation ;)
