  • Sugarpants you WON'T be here in ten years time. I knwo we don't your circumstances and therefroe how quickly your debts might be paid off but theyre comparativly very small - I'm in no way making light of them, please dont think that, I know it's all relative, just saying they def won't take 10 years :j . So put thatthought out of your mind.

And to tackle your other worry: like others have said, your children won't think you're bad parents at all! My parents were in debt on CCs when I was very little, they worked hard to pay it off and never used them since and therefore taught me to sensible with credit, not be scared of it but jsut use it wisely. So if you teach yours the same as mine taught me they'll be as proud of you as I am of mine... if you're still with me :o

And finally, beans on toast. Well, it's very... nutritious :rotfl: I'm sure you've thought of all sorts of combos but have you ever added cheese/tuna/hot dogs or curry/chili powder? Just a thought if you're sick of the same thing 3 nights running? Actually, I fancy beans on toast now!

Well, chin up you, you'll get there and it won't take 10 years and your kids will be proud :T

I am in the same boat once all the bills are paid, food has been bought there isnt much in the pot at all. I dont have kids there is just me and sometimes i think OMG where is my money going too. Since January though iv made some changes and im hoping with even more careful spending i may save something but i have to wait and see

i shall bring some cheese with me as grated cheese on top is also lovely ;)
 sometimes my debt panics me..... EVEN after 4 years or so.

I will be free in less than three years with a trust deed - my only option as debt management was taking too long :(
  • Sugarpants could I ask you to post your SOA again? Am I right in saying you are managing to pay minimum payments on your debts, but this is leaving you having to eat beans on toast? It MAY be that, once you budget for a decent diet and some leisure spending (yes, you are legally allowed to budget for these things) you would be better off on a DMP. Downside: you would have defaults on your credit file Upside: Creditors will probably stop interest which means you can get the capital paid off much quicker, and you will be able to take the kids to the seaside in the summer.

Hi sugarpants could you look into getting a job around your child maybe.I work 11pm-7am around the children so that school holidays etc are not an issue (except extreme tiredness lol).
Also we can all have bad days and forget how far we have come.Maybe have a breather from it all and see how you feel after a break from looking at your finances .
I would also come see all the lovely people on OS board. They helped us get our shopping bill halved, and we eat better than ever.
Looking at your sig your doing fantastic don t beat yourself up,and im sure you are a lovely mum,bad one s don t seem to question themselves.

  • Whats a DMP?
We want to get a mortgage in 2010 so need a clear credit score.
    DMP sounds good though.

i reduced my house fone down - only use it now if i really have to

i did the same with mobile and got a better deal so get free calls during the day which means dont use house fone as much

iv got the electricity down by switching everything off and not on standby and having the tv on in living room and bedroom along with the radio in kitchen ... no need mags. turning off lights when i aint in the room as i used to leave them on all the time.

got the gas down by wearing extra clothes and realising i dont have to have it on for so long
    reduced sky down

making big pots of dinners and freezing them.

stop going to the shop just because i felt i needed too.

not buying brand names im going down to the cheapest which has saved me lots and it just tastes the same

You will get there it is hard. i hated the postman as all he did was bring me bad letters.

it is easier for me as there is just me. I dont have to think about kids or other halves so what I spend i could bring down cos i only had me to think about

and stupid me this is how silly I can be i didnt realise i was paying insurance on old mobiles :( yip i hang my head in shame so im saving 20 pounds already. im getting a refund on one of them.
