mm turkey!! I was tyring to convince my mum to do turkey this year. But chicken is a safer option for us because my dad over carves, although I know my mum would love doing os meals with the left over meat! I can't believe christmas is 2 months (and a day) away already.
Apparently we're offically in a recession as of today (according to GMTV, but this was swiftly followed by a part about a glow in the dark cat so who knows?)
Going shopping this afternoon for a 'big shop' clutching my shopping list and cat food coupons! Never done one before  closest I've got was a mini shop when my parents were in paris afew months back. Planning on making some flapjacks for my parents to take to snack on on the way to Italy too.0 -
good luck cinny which store are you going to?0

Going to aldi for the most of it, I've got a budget of £40. My mum does a weekly shop for 5 of us for about the same so I should be well under that. Got alittle bit of a meal plan sorted too,
Monday - Meatballs and Pasta
Tuesday - Leek and potato soup.
Wednesday - sister's cooking, not sure!
Thursday - left over meatballs and pasta
Friday - Tomato soup.
There's also 2 saturday nights + 1 sunday but they'll more than likely be jacket potatoes and something. I normally have something makeshift from the cupboards for lunch, so does my sister and my brother buys lunch at work so we're alright there too!
*edit* All done now! *wipes brow* it's stressful! Came to a total of about £34. but that's including afew things my mum wanted for Italy. so not bad!
and I swear I saw an OSer in asda!! A trolley full of pasta and was getting flour + sugar. didn't see any chopped toms so I could be wrong0 -
I have been away for 4 days and what do I do as soon as I have unpacked but get back to the garden fence that someone mentioned
I just cannot bear to be away from the chat for too long
I am so pleased to see that several new posters have joined the happy band. I read in the paper today that having 10 friends keeps depression at bay :rotfl: we don`t need 10 local friends as we all have lots and lots of virtual friends on here. All are welcome to come in for a nice cup of tea
Re going away to self catering, I have got to admit that I wondered why, when home is so nice. Ok change of scene and all that and all the basic home comforts were there but there is nothing like your own bed. Dh and I got backache from sitting on their sofa and yesterday decided to put spare backrests and bases on a seat for each of us, I hope they didn`t spot us through the window as we must have looked about 8 feet tall :rotfl: . Anyway that was bliss and the ache down the leg vanished. Oh well we booked months ago and it was good to know that in a small way we supported a small farm directly but home sweet homeTo rub salt in, we booked to go fungi foraging and there wasn`t a single edible fungi about. Not one, mother earth must be getting so fed up with the way humankind treats her
I did re-learn about being in a dark cold cottage though, single glazing and storage heaters and a constant damp scent and it also felt energy-draining probably because it was small and full of electricity-using things. Immersion, shower, tv, dvd, skybox, storage heaters, oil heater, electric fire, electric cooker and so on. It gave me a huge new respect for those hardy souls who are still managing without any form of heating as it is so easy for the likes of me in a light, cosy, draught-free house and living in the south too. I can well imagine the damp running down the walls of some houses, if heating doesn`t go on and make a plea to those in damp houses because damp is so bad for health, please turn your heating on low if you can
I am also wondering if so many people on here are so cheerful in difficult circumstances because they have turned off a lot of the stuff that causes electrosmog. Maybe we are now living in atmospheres that are better for us. Just a thought0 -

Evening all. Well I am looking forward to a week of not worrying about using the heating as me and the boys are off up to the caravan tonight (electric heater, isn't amazing but warm enough to keep the chill off in the small area) we are all huddled in one room anyway when we're away, dogs included from when DP comes up. DP will be home until Sunday but have instructed him to only use heating when necessary (he's a nightmare for wandering round in a pair of shorts with heating on full!)
Listening to the radio and TV news today, I am just wondering why it's took so long for them to admit what was going to happen.
I always find weeks away like this a good eye opener as I am restricted for storage space so I buy/take only what we need, just shows me how much we really need in food etc which is usually less than I think.
**wishes people would stop the remoska chat as I want one** sobs**One day I might be more organised...........

For two days running I have been planning to do a BIG shop but just haven't felt well enough so we've managed perfectly well out of the freezer and store cupboard. That is with one of the two freezers empty and defrosted. I'm hoping to work tomorrow so that's another day without shopping (this lot won't go, humph!) no-one will starve .....
Then again it shows how good it is to be well stocked so that I can actually get away with having a few days sniffing on the sofa and not panic about getting everyone fed.
I am contemplating an on-line shop at Mr T but it's not the same and no yellow stickers
