Happytails - shame about your OH and the nappies. Mine wasnt so keen either, I had to wash them, then fold them and prepare them so that for him it was just like using disposables, instead of putting in waste bin, he put it in nappy bin. I used to enjoy folding them up and seeing how clean they were. Never ever have I had one not come clean, if you wash at 60 it kills all the germs too.
Congratulations on choosing a name, its beautiful.

Quick question, those cuddly wheat bag teddies you pop into microwave to warm......well what happens if they are in too long and they burn? Mine was in too long and now stinks and i have no idea how to rid the smell - i dont want to buy a new one :(

    xxx

Don't buy a new one, make a new one, they are dead easy to make (if you have a sewing machine). Just use fairly strong material, like corduroy or thick cotton, and it is just a matter of sewing 3 sides of a rectangle together, then fill the bag with the cheapest porridge oats you can find, then sew the end of the bag together and Bob's your uncle!

I'm only just 28 and i feel old now in comparison to all these young'uns! My hubby thinks i'm mad but this forum makes so much sense to me, i just seem to have been naturally programmed with "old school" values, finding this place was like coming home!

It's the same here for me, everyone calls me old fashioned, but I take it was a compliment! Don't feel old, you've still got a couple of years left in you ;)

It's like a little haven here for me, no-one else (bar my mum) seems to get my OS ways. I was trying to talk to the woman who works in the office with me about baking ect (she's 35, I think) and she just went off about how it's easier to get something from tescos. I had a sudden feeling it should of been the other way round.

;) Felines are my favourite ;)
  • Cinny to be fair to your sister that is a reason a lot of people OS or economise. You save where you can to afford what you want. Obviously not all people are MSE'rs for that reason, but that is my ethos.

I nearly 30 (after Christmas ;) ) and I've been ol' style for as long as I can remember, I've always been older than my years :o:rotfl: Mind you my "little" sister is on here as well and she's only just turned 23 ;)
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

Its the same round my way - but what happens when the state goes bankrupt ? Remember the old saying 'what goes up must come down'?

Thank God for self reliance and planning ahead. I hope our lords and masters have been able to avert financial disaster - but its just as well to keep one eye out for you and yours - it's a fair bet those in control are keeping one eye on their escape route.....

So if they are going to be prepared 'just in case', then so will I! :D

Well....put it this way...any question of the State not handing over the "dosh" (ie State pensions we have paid for) come the time....I think we'd see all the politicians escaping the country pretty darn quick....before we got to them:D or hiring bodyguards;)

Oh no, I know that! I wasn't knocking her. What I meant was she's really got her priorities sorted this year. Last year she wouldn't of thought twice about blowing all her money on a shopping spree and then shooting off to my grandparents for petrol money, but now she's realising if she budgets her money she can have her cake and eat it, or so to speak.

Talking about peoples money management - or lack of - I had someone swear blind to me the other day that they "cant save/dont have any money for it". Errr....then how come I see them frequently buy fiction books (something I will only do once in a very blue moon - and then it has to be 50p max - as I'm only going to read it once) and they obviously spend a lot of money on going out drinking and have several holidays a year. Hmmm...and "cant save"......hmmm......Someone else I know also complains about being broke - but frequently throws away food.

I will believe people are taking their finances seriously when I cant walk down the street any day of the week and see people smoking/obviously making a habit of eating and boozing too much/dressed in conspicuously fashionable clothes/driving round in cars unnecessarily etc
