Unix, yes I know people like that too. I dont understand why people would buy mash potato already mashed, its not like its hard to do it yourself.0

I cut every one's hair in our household, bar dd2 (17) who wants her hair thinned, so she goes to a hairdresser every so often. I have'nt had my hair cut in yonks, but might do next year as dd3 (15) is planning on doing a hair dresser apprenticeship next year, and might need a guinea pig.0

I cut my dh`s hair with clippers and it looks good but mine is short and needs layering at the moment. I did have a bob but there is no way I could or would cut my own hair. Fortunately the colour is sleek and shiny pure silver so that is a saving grace. I think I might do some detective work and sit outside some cheaper salons to see what comes out
well....I found my hairdresser by asking people with good haircuts who they went to and have been going to them for years now. I just have a "dry trim" every few weeks and pay about £12 for it - wouldnt want to try leaning back into one of those "backwards" type basins for having my hair washed anyways:cool:
I've rarely paid to have my hair coloured professionally. I used to colour my hair myself - until I realised that I am the only woman I know socially who has her hair coloured (professionally or otherwise) - apart from one or two who do home henna jobs (which I'm useless at doing anyway). I would be out of place in my "social circle" anyway with coloured hair. I do stick to using a bit of eye make-up though - though few women in my "circle" use that either - but at least I dont have to feel bad about not doing so on those times when I really cant find the time/be bothered to do so. So I guess there is an element of fitting in with people I know and having a similar "style". I know what ways I would "stick out like sore thumb" - but any "lack of grooming" stuff isnt one of them - LOL! But we do all tend to have well-cut hair - heh!0 -
Might try for an over sixty discount...OH gets it in barbers...also will try for a dry cut...don't do colour so that is one less problem...I pay €40 plus tip every six or seven weeks, maybe could go to 8 weeks and look for discount and dry cut...my hair has become strange over the last few years, so I am still faffing around with finding a style I like which suits me.

I have had the same hairdresser for years. She was originally at the salon she was at and when that closed and she went mobile I went with her. We have our mops chopped every six weeks [dry cuts] and all the hair goes out the compost heap. It seems to be another avenue to explore in order to trim/cut
:D costs.

I actually find my short spiky/ruffled/layered cut is fine to cut myself - leastways, no one's stopped me in the street to tell me how ghastly I look!! (or to ask where I get it cut, come to that...... ...
I don't pay much for my haircuts but I really hate the process so I'm very tempted to try this - my hair is quite short and thin and I love Carol Klein's wayward look - I suppose you wax it into the style you want and then cut off the bits that don't fit?
I might have to give this a go and no, photos will NOT follow :rotfl:... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Dont know if anyone has done this, but I was in London last week and my fringe was in dire need of a trim -well I was having to move it to one side to see - and everywhere I looked - £15 upwards:eek::eek:
So I walked into a barbers that was empty and said can you cut my fring please. Reply was "we don't do ladies". Seeing as the place was empty I said "you dont seem to cut anyone's so you have time to fit me in" and sat down. Got the fringe done lovely in five mins flat - for £3 - RESULT
Plus the best bit was - since I came home Ive had compliments over my new hair cut :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
that's a very good idea, I would do that yes.0

We all have our hairs cut by a friend who's a pro. She comes to our house every 7 weeks or so and gives us all a trim for €7,50 each. Kids €5,00
I do realize we are pretty lucky to have her.
I will trim a kid's fringe on occassion when it needs it but would never cut my own hair.. don't think it will look very good!
I'm working on a crochet blanket now that actually might be good enough to sell!! lol!!
I've made two already from left over wool that we now use to cuddle under at night on the couch, but as I've seen prices of hand made crochet blankets on the internet I'm thinking: "I can do that!!"
I get that a lot nowadays anyway, since I've been here on the forum. Watched a friend pay a small fortune for a cheese/bread stick at the baker and thought: "I can do that!!"
So tried it, and they came out lovely! Kids were practically fighting over the last one!
So what do you think?.. is this good selling stuff?.. it's not finished yet, it'll get another light blue border around it. Personally I think it would make a great baby blanket!0 -

That blanket is beautiful! Can I ask how you join the squares together?
Thanks, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0
