Well I'm not giving up my hairdresser, I pay £36 every 8 weeks, shh don't tell anyone! I have very very curly hair and a disaster not long ago, so paying this amount to someone who does a good job is worth it to me.
I have cut my own hair in the past and it was okay, but now it actually looks good and is easy to recreate the styling that my hairdresser does at home, which I guess is part of a good cut.GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
I cut my dh`s hair with clippers and it looks good but mine is short and needs layering at the moment. I did have a bob but there is no way I could or would cut my own hair. Fortunately the colour is sleek and shiny pure silver so that is a saving grace. I think I might do some detective work and sit outside some cheaper salons to see what comes out
Don't put yourself down Kittie. When my hairdresser kept going on about my grey, sorry silver, I stood up straight, shoulders back and told her in my posh voice "My hair is not silver..It's PLATINUM":rotfl:Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -
fab idea newlywed
I have always gone by the theory that if I hate a haircut (or colour) I'll just get my hair cut short. In any case, it will always grow again. But then again, having had very short hair that is now shoulder length, that doesn't worry meworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Oh god, I've been every colour often ! Gone from jet black to pale blond and vice versa, a few time. from long blond to 2" jet black once and it was gorgeous. The one thing about hair is that it always grows in. or out...:)0

I'd love to cut my own hair - but probably not terribly moneysaving as I'd have to drink an entire bottle of gin to get the courage up...
Popped into Iceland on the way back this morning and disheartened to see their milk has gone up to £1.25 for 4 pints. Milk is my big headache food as toddler needs full fat and I only have a small freezer, so can't stockpile. Everything else I can stash when on offer or grow or do without. Not sure whether full fat dried milk exists or is any good for growing small people. Any ideas? On a mission.0 -
Can't think of anything to cut back on, my wife cuts my hair, her hair is about 3 ft long and she wouldn't have it cut for the world. I use a solar oven in the summer if the sun shines. A solar shower gives me all the warm water I need when in the garden (washing hands, plant pots etc) have solid fuel fires, no central heating. I cook for us both as wife is disabled and employ all the moneysaving techniques learnt from my parents.Give me life, give me love, give me peace on earth.0

The one thing I've been able to save money on is hairdressers.I'm 53 and have never ever been to a hairdresser in my life (no I'm not bald either).
I've always had long hair and for moneysaving purposes, luckily I've no grey.I think thats because I have fair reddish hair coupled with the fact that neither my parents went grey till they were in their late 70s.My OH trims my hair every month and that's it.
I just can't stand being fussed with and it would drive me mad having someone play about with my hair and even madder to have to pay them.0 -

farmfoods milk is only £1.00 for 2 litres. Well, I say only, but it's thebest I can find anyway, unless I'm lucky enough to get rtc.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -
I used to spend a fortune on colouring, full colour and highlights, but have now switched to using Henna at home (my pic on the avatar is me waiting for the henna to develop!).
Re. cut, I think that if you can afford £31 every 6 weeks it is worth paying for, unless you are fortunate enough to find someone who cuts your hair for less, of course, AND are satisfied with the results!
I used to go to a dreary boring hairdresser that charged £13 for a dry cut and it was just DEPRESSING, I could have done better by hacking my own hair with blunt scissors!
Then I started going to have my hair tinted (at great cost as explained above) but the net result is that I discovered a great haircutter, for appx. £30 a cut. I go every few months now, just for the cuts.
Long time ago I used to go as a model. The colour was almost always ok, but had to stop doing this because it used to ruin my scalp! The cut would usually take more than three hours and in the end I thought I'd rather pay than be tormented by a teenage trainee with scissors snipping my hair at random and wishing for the best (me not her!).
If you can afford to pay, a good professional cut in my opinion is really worth paying for!
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
I wouldn't cut my own hair unless I was really desperate.
I've actually been considering trying to find more spare cash to budget towards haircuts. My current budget is £20 a month, but what I tend to do is leave it 4 months and then go for a cut and semi-permanent colour which costs £75 (plus tip). In fact, if I'm honest I'm more likely to leave it 6 months instead of 4, and nick the leftover £40 to spend on something else
I think the most cost-effective way of doing it would probably be to go every other month for a cut (£35 a time) and do the colour myself. That would mean I could afford to colour it every month, too.
I'm going in on Saturday for a cut and colour, and boy does it need it. I think the last time I had it done was March :eek:Operation Get in Shape
