    In today's Guardian newspaper:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2008/oct/14/europe-europeanbanks

hmmm.....well thats as maybe.....but howzabout a concerted European - indeed worldwide - response to reclaiming all the money these bankers have taken (I did use a more accurate word - but thought I'd phrase it tactfully) off us - with their huge salaries and even huger bonuses.

We want the jeroboams of champagne/fancy cars and expensive houses back - as they were bought with our money - by them playing games we dont understand with figures on computer screens.

Now that I'm the part owner of some of the largest banks in the UK, does this mean that whenever I see a banker's Porche parked in the car park I can get in and drive it away ??:rotfl: After all, I'm only helping myself to my own property. (I can see this being the latest excuse of all the low-lifers when they turn up in court for car stealing!)

    :hello: Good morning

Happy to report DD surgery yesterday went fine, for once she wasn't so sick after it and we were allowed home late last night. Now it is just waiting to see if the eardrum graft will take and grow.

I am going to organise my stock better today so I can see what I have more cleary. I have an old card index that I found, unused (can't remember what I bought it for in the first place ) and am going to write down what I have and how much so I can meal plan more easy and add on what I need. It feels good to have stock knowing that you can feed your family when things get tougher

Morning! Just a quick post for all you store cupboard hoarders, Morrisons are doing their own version of lock n lock for half price, think it's till 18th Oct, but def on at the mo. Got a couple of bits and they seem fine, will pop and get some more, not a huge range of sizes, but ours is only a little Morries. Think the small sarnie sized ones were 97p, as were the ones that were sort of sugar bag sized.

  • Hee hee, I think I've got hubby trained! He has become very proficient with the breadmaker, the Kenwood Chef and the Soya milk maker AND he seems mainly to have understood that going to the deli around the corner to buy honey when I've got Tesco value honey in the corner is probably going to make me cross :D

BUT...having found ourselves very skint this month as all our savings are in Icesave I've been trying to work out how to suggest that keeping a little stash of cash in the house might be sensible so that we avoid this situation again if things get worse...I broached the subject last night assuming he'd think I was nuts and he said "yeah, I'm doing it already, it seemed sensible" :rotfl:

He's self employed and so it's money that goes into the business, but he's keeping a bit aside until he gets more cash and then banking the first...it's all accounted for through the accounts but it does mean that if we get a crisis like this or a problem getting money out of our acounts then we'll be alright for a bit.

well the temporary uplifting of spirits was nice while it lasted and today we need to take stock re recession and unemployment, so it is back to reality

I have been thinking about my hair. It is short, straight with a little kink and very silver. I like to go for a good cut once every 5 weeks and just have a wash, cut and blow dry. Last time it was razer cut so I have spiky bits on the side and I was in there for half an hour in total. Next time it will be scissor cut. The cost has been consistent for weeks now at £31 and I suppose that is ok relative to posh hairdressers. What do you think of the cost and would you change to a cheaper (unknown!!!!) hairdresser. By unknown, I mean that mine is a good hairdresser and she knows me. I have already changed my next appointment to a 6 week interval. What would you do and do you think £31 is ok (the more I think of it, ie 1/3 of £100 for half an hour!!!!)

I have short silver hair too. I used to go to a salon which charged £11 pensioners rate Mon - Wed. The hairdresser I had there left to go mobile but to my joy I met her in the street and arranged with her to come to my home.
She still charges £11 for cut a blow dry, so could you try a mobile hairdresser?

  • I have my hair cut every 5 weeks or so (short layered) and am now down to a dry cut which costs £16.50. Gave up on having it blow dried when I realised it was £10 for a load of hot air! Also colour it myself with Herbatint about every 3 - 4 weeks and as I can get two lots of colour from one pack that costs about £4 a go.

Beginning to think what I spend now on the cut is a bit much and was wondering whether to try the local college instead.

It's horses for courses isn't it? I mean - is it worth it to you? I pay a fiver at the college, but I have simple shoulder length hair, I hate getting it cut and being fiddled with so it is a functional thing and I go twice a year, and then I tie it back out of the way for six months and try to forget my hair exists. You pay £31 and you are happy with your hair and your hairdresser? You could try paying less, but you may not be happy with the person or the result and you would have to live with it for at least six weeks while it grew out. If your hair is an important part of your life and you can afford the money, then stay where you are.

Another side consideration is that you are supporting a local businesswoman, who also needs to make a living. And every pound we spend is a vote for someone or something to exist, right? So why vote for for someone and something you are not happy with?

Extending the appointment to six weeks was a good idea - maybe there are other ways to reduce the cost (like bartering for babysitting, cooking, advertising etc.). I used to work for a man who got free tailormade suits by referring other customers - a new suit for 5 referrals I think. He was a walking advert and kept a stack of the tailor's business cards in his pockets (never had his own with him, mind...).
    On a mission.
