I don't pay much for my haircuts but I really hate the process so I'm very tempted to try this - my hair is quite short and thin and I love Carol Klein's wayward look - I suppose you wax it into the style you want and then cut off the bits that don't fit?
I might have to give this a go and no, photos will NOT follow :rotfl:
Hi rosieben
I know I'm supposed to cut it 'wet' but I can't tell what I've done so far then! I just section it bit by bit and hold thin slices in my fingers and trim. I first did this when I was unable to get to my hairdressers for almost 3 months and was desperate, in the end I figured I'd paid enough for basic haircutting 'tuition' over the years, so just did what I'd seen my hairdresser do. Must admit, the back was an interesting challenge.... But overall, really not too bad! :j

A while ago in one of your posts you mentioned the book "The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists". (by Robert Tressell)
I have just recently finished reading it and I think it should be compulsory reading for anyone over the age of 15 !!
Enjoy isn't the word I would use, but it was a fascinating insight into life and conditions of the workers in the early 1900's
It hooked me and I couldn't read it quick enough!
To me it seems that the " masses" have not changed a great deal, even though everyday life has, ( this is my perspective) and right now I feel a bit like "Owen", so I am leaving this site as the negativity(on this site) seems to be increasing and I don't need that.
(one can't be a "sensitive" and not be sensitive;) )
I have enjoyed reading your posts and there are a handful of people who I felt might be kindred spirits, however, they are too many who choose the internet to vent their spleen, and their negativity is something I can do without.
I am off to read more books:D0 -
Betcatje - lovely blanket. Will it wash? I'm always a little wary of washing blue and white together. In the past have ended up with the blue colours leaching into the white. I recently bought a blue & white striped sweater and despite very careful handwashing on a low temperature, the colours have unfortunately run, so be careful not to spill anything on it.0

Sounds good, but unfortunately nearest store is 3 hours there and back on the bus, and I can't freeze lots of milk as no space.
Brila,
It was when the price of milk shot up by over 20p in the coop for the 3l that we really realised how much food prices had gone up; with kids, it's just not an optional purchase, is it?
On our high street, several of the newsagents have been selling th 2l ones for £1, though I notice this week it's gone up to £1.10. Two of those makes for a free litre compared to coop prices...might be worth taking a look at local shops like that? We also get our eggs at the local greengrocers as they're much cheaper than supermarkets.

beccatje, are you going to try it on etsy.com or craft fairs or consignment or what?0

Thanks, Penny. x
I just crosheted them together.. not sure how to explain that.
Made a row of the tall stiches along one side first (don't know how to call that stitch in english maybe mumoftwo will know??..SIS???)
Then lay the squares with good sides ontop of eachother and crochet the two together with a small tight stich.
Does that help?0 -

I"m not really sure how well it will hold up in the wash actually. I think on a wool washing it should hold.
But since this is my first one with this wool i can't really be sure.0 -

Hi Guineapig,
Glad you appreciated the book - it was my dad's fave book and he 'made' me read it when I was about 14. It opened my eyes to a lot of the things he talked about. Sadly now he has alzheimers and we can't get a good discussion going and 'put the world to rights' around the kitchen table any more - and I really miss that, but thinking about that book reminds me of better times.
I'm sorry that you are thinking of leaving MSE - I know what you mean about the tone on the boards at the moment - which is why I have retreated almost entirely to the OS board...a much friendlier bunch of people here than elsewhere on MSE at the moment.
Best wishes,
FE
PS - I recommended before (earlier in this thread maybe?) Round About A Pound A Week by Maud Pember Reeves....if you liked TRTP then you'd prob. like that one too...The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"
