lauren, I am off to stock up as well!!

Well I have to admit defeat,I can't stock up anymore.I have nowhere else I can stash anything.I did my weekly shop yesterday and bought a few extra things,I've now got two bags of shopping sitting on my kitchen floor with no where and I mean nowhere to put it.My garden shed is full of tinned goods and fresh veg.My freezers stuffed,so is the fridge and even my cupboard under the stairs. It's got to the point where I'm frighted to open the cupboards to get anything out as food packets keep attacking me.
Still,I suppose I can feel content (and a little bruised) knowing we won't starve.

fridge freezer on the blink water lying in bottom.

Just a thought - but mine does this when the little drainage hole at the back needs cleaning out! I tend to give it a clean out with some damp cotton buds & the water stops collecting at the bottom!! Hth

Know what you mean though about things going wrong - my ceramic hob needs repairing - £250!!!!!

I just choked on my morning tea. We are sitting talking about sneaking lentils and grated carrots into stew--and in the american group I'm in they are talking about a cookbook with a recipe called--
"How to cook a Wolf"........ Speechless here !!

Oooooh! do tell us which group this is Mardatha;) er....link please.....

(though am still planning on sticking with the "gentler" British way of dealing with this - ie our Transition Town Movement - which, incidentally is spreading internationally...and see one or two places in America are starting up Transition Town groups (one of them being Los Angeles!).
(stand up Rob Hopkins - the founder of this - and take a bow! Whoops - he just shot off - that man is so self-effacing <grin> )

moneysavingfamilycomp - yorkies are the one thing I can never ever make, even the dog refused to eat the pancakes I created last sunday! And I work for Mr T's and haven't seen any of the cheap lager either! I think it's a myth!

Charis - some things you never think you'll hear, at war with Iceland was one of them! Just shows how tough times are when big banks are crashing. Martin recommended them for their interest rates, but gave all the usual warnings, anyway thankfully individuals savings are now safe, though they may take time to get back!

d&dd - I know full well that your stocks would put mine to shame, but thanks for inviting me - or letting me invite myself! I love the support os-ers give each other :-)

ceridwen and mumof2 - I love my little entrepreneurs dearly, but when I find the last hobnob has gone I sometimes rethink that! Told them they have to bake the stuff themselves now - dd2 and I usually do all the baking, along with help from dd3. They've asked dd2 to help them, I'm guessing that money will be changing hands, she isn't silly - at least someone is making a profit at the mo!

Well I've been dredging out old recipes, God bless Marguerite Patten, and seeing what sort of substitutions can be made - parsnips instead of bananas anyone? Parsnips are constantly reduced at work at the mo, so might give it a go!

dd1 wanted to buy a pud yesterday and said but I bet you can make it better and cheaper, flattery will get her a long way! So I showed her how to make lemon mousse - yep it was cheaper and a whole lot tastier! Even she is coming round to my money saving os ways now - if she can do it then anyone can learn!
