I wish I had no rent etc and earnt £3500 per month take home!!

Get rid of what ever is in the garage, harsh as it is you are living in cuckoo land, like someone has already said you couldnt afford it when you were working, now you deff cannot afford it.

I am very suprised your parents dont want rent/ food money/ towards the bill money.

You need to get real and fast.

    Thought this place was friendly?

If you read through the posts you'll realise i was paying rent while working.

    Thank you anyway.
  • The bright side is...if at 21 you crack the money mentality...you won't be needing the dfw forum for the rest of your life. Taken me 37 years to get my head around the fact 'I need to live within my means' rather than 'borrow to live how i want' Good luck you have made a cracking start.

insurance on anything is a killer.

    Audi A4 1.8T= insurance group 12.
    Ford Fiesta 1.3 = insurance group 3.

Mate, you're doing the right thing by losing the Audi. By the way I'm curious - what is your racing car?

the car in the garage - if it isn't running change the car tax to SORN http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/UntaxedVehicle/DG_4022058

you can keep the car off road and save the tax amount. does it need to be insured as well?

Race car is a track prep'd Fiesta - which has cost so much money to get to where it is it's not worth thinking about.

The car in garage has just had it's insurance cancelled.

I'm about this [______] far from breaking it and selling it in bits.

to be honest then, if you've no emotional attachment and just want rid, do whatever is going to get you the most money in the quickest amount of time.

  • I can see how you wouldn't want to get rid of it, given that you might not get what you spent on it, but...

I might be completely wrong about this (and no offence meant) but it sounds like a bit of a shed. It's not a race car - It's a Fiesta that doesn't work, despite you apparently having spent loads of money on it. Can't you put it in the classifieds in Max Power or something? Some chav dreamer will take it off your hands :rotfl:

OK I'm being a bit cruel but my point is that you could make a big dent in your capital owed by selling this knackered car.

If you were pulling in £60K+ a year then no doubt one day you will get another job at a similar salary. Then you can buy another race car. One that works

It's not broken - just I'm in the middle of finishing the new engine off. ($$$$$$$$$) Loads of attachement to it - I'd rather sell the shed of an Audi first.

Want to know the most stupid thing?

I used to work in a bank and see this stuff happening everyday. The problem was... that there was "always some one in a much worse position"

    OK, Dan
    so far you've reduced:
your phone bill from £150 to £20 pm
your car ins from £309 to £176

If you can reduce your internet, forgo totally your £20 pm clothes budget (I'm sure you don't need this right now) and severely cut down on your entertainment, you're on your way to breaking even whilst things are so dire.

I know that kazwookie is right when he says "you need to get real & fast" but no amount of us telling you that will make it happen.
As you said, this has all been round in your head and you KNOW what you need to do, you just need to accept it in your mind.

    good luck

Hi mate, as you're doing a lot of miles, I'd get rid of the Audi and get a small diesel. I used to drive a Renault Clio 1.9 diesel (no turbo). It was insurance group 3 I think. Obviously less than impressive performance, but was very cheap on fuel and insurance. you can pick one up for less than your Audi and throw the difference at your debts.

As for the car in the garage, make sure you've cancelled tax and insurance on it. There is also no need to MOT it if it's off the road. It won't cost you a penny that way, but consider selling it if you think you'll get a reasonable amount for it. There'll be time to get back into it all once you've got a higher income again.

With the phones, make sure you're on the lowest possible package, you can go to a lower package even during your contract period, normally after a few months.

Well done on taking the first steps and good luck.
